CANCUN, Mexico -- Minus the leading scorer in the ACC, the Virginia Tech men's basketball team still managed to pull off a 103-94 overtime win over Seton Hall on Saturday night.
The Hokies (12-1) won without point guard Malcolm Delaney, who averages 19.8 points. He missed the game with a sprained ankle that he suffered in Wednesday's win over Longwood.
Dorenzo Hudson scored 41 points. He was 20-of-21 from the free-throw line, tying the Tech record for most free throws made in a game that was set by Terry Penn in a 1957 game against The Citadel. Hudson had not attempted more than six free throws in any game in his career.
Hudson, a junior guard whose previous best was 24 points, was 9-for-23 from the floor, including 3-for-7 from 3-point range.
Jeff Allen had 23 points and 13 rebounds for Tech.
It was the ninth straight victory for Tech, which beat Delaware in OT to start the winning streak.
The Hokies led by as many as 14 points in the first half and had an 80-75 lead with 36 seconds left in regulation.
Robert Mitchell hit a 3-pointer, and Eugene Harvey made a layup with 15 seconds left to tie the score at 80.
Freshman point guard Erick Green missed two free throws late in regulation. Hudson also missed a layup late in regulation.
At the end of regulation, Seton Hall failed to get a shot off before the buzzer -- partly due to the lack of game clocks in the gym.
After Virginia Tech built a five-point lead in overtime, the Pirates pulled within two points twice, the last time at 92-90. The Hokies sealed the win with an 11-2 run.
Jeremy Hazell scored 24 points for Seton Hall (9-4), whose other losses were to ranked foes West Virginia in overtime, Syracuse and Temple.
