Stacey Palmore, an assistant men's basketball coach at Virginia Tech for the past five seasons, has resigned to become an assistant at Georgia.

"He was a very valuable member of our staff," Hokies head coach Seth Greenberg said. "He has an unbelievable work ethic and a great rapport with the players."

Palmore said he was attracted by Georgia's proximity to his home in Greenwood, S.C. Palmore's wife is from Savannah, Ga.

He did not have a prior connection to Georgia or new Bulldogs coach Mark Fox, who previously coached at the University of Nevada.

"I think part of the reason they approached me was that I had recruited Georgia a lot," said Palmore, the lead recruiter for Tech signee Manny Atkins from Atlanta. "They felt that was an area where they had to do better."

Palmore has recruited Atlanta in stops as an assistant at Western Carolina, Evansville and the College of Charleston

"My head is spinning," said Palmore, who was offered the job at Georgia on Wednesday and will offer his official resignation today before beginning his new job Monday. "I'll be living out of a suitcase till I sell my house and buy a new one."

Greenberg didn't want to lose Palmore but said he knew that family issues were overriding.

"It all happened so quickly that I'm going to sit back and think about where I want to go with the staff," said Greenberg, who has discussed the possibility of elevating director of basketball operations Adrian Autry. "Stacey did a terrific job for us."
