BLACKSBURG -- Virginia Tech men's basketball coach Seth Greenberg has organized a committee that will auction off sports memorabilia online to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
All the money will go to Habitat for Humanity, which builds homes for families.
Greenberg's team personally was affected by the hurricane because Tech forward Deron Washington's mother lives in New Orleans. She got out before the hurricane hit and is staying with friends in Houston, but she lost her home. The school where she taught was also lost to the flooding.
Beginning Sept. 14, people can bid for items on AllCoachesCare.com. Items donated by coaches include tickets to the ACC, Big 12 and Pac-10 men's basketball tournaments; jerseys autographed by Alex Smith and Andrew Bogut; a ball and jersey autographed by Steve Alford; a poster and ball signed by Mike Krzyzewski and the Duke team; tickets to the Virginia Tech-Duke basketball game; tickets to a Notre Dame football and basketball game; tickets to a Villanova basketball game; lunch at Notre Dame with Mike Brey; lunch at Southern California with Tim Floyd; and a ball signed by Tommy Amaker. Donations from coaches are still being sought.
