BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech senior linebacker Tariq Edwards said he injured his shoulder during Saturday’s scrimmage and expects to be held out of tonight’s scrimmage at Lane Stadium.
But, Edwards, who missed a good portion of last season as he recovered from leg surgery, said he expects to be ready for the Aug. 31 season opener against Alabama.
“It’s just real sore,” Edwards said. “I’m just trying to get it right for next week. Get it stronger, get some more motion in it and I’ll be ready.”
The 6-foot-2, 234-pound Edwards said it’s the smart move to hold him out of contact this week. Tech has had him in the blue, limited-contact jersey.
“I’d rather be able to play in next week’s game,” he said.
