Virginia Tech got its 11th commitment for 2014 late Monday night from L.C. Bird safety Shawn Payne.

Payne, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound rising senior is not ranked by the recruiting services and had only one other offer from Charlotte, according to 247 Sports But he impressed Virginia Tech coaches at a summer camp earlier this month and earned a scholarship offer. He’s being recruited as a cornerback but could be a wide receiver in college.

Shane Beamer was Payne’s primary recruiter.

Commitments are non-binding until National Signing Day next February.
