University of Virginia defensive end Chris Long became the third unanimous All-American in the Cavaliers' football history when he was named first team to the Associated Press All-America team.

Long, the ACC's defensive player of the year, was the lone football player from the commonwealth to make the first team.

Virginia Tech junior cornerback Brandon Flowers made the second team. UVa offensive guard Branden Albert and Tech linebacker Xavier Adibi made the third team.

Long, who won the Ted Hendricks Award last week as the nation's top defensive end, was one of eight players to be a unanimous All-American, meaning he was named on all five of college football's major All-America teams.

The others were Arkansas running back Darren McFadden, Texas Tech wideout Michael Crabtree, Michigan offensive lineman Jake Long, LSU defensive lineman Glenn Dorsey Southern Cal defensive lineman Sedrick Ellis, Southern Cal, Ohio State linebacker James Laurinaitis and Kansas defensive back Aqib Talib.
