Virginia men's basketball coach Dave Leitao has returned to his old Chicago surroundings and signed Mustapha Farrakhan, a 6-foot-4 guard from Thornton Township High School in Harvey, Ill.
Farrakhan, who was at Virginia on an official visit for the Cavaliers' game Sunday with Arizona, is the grandson of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.
Mustapha Farrakhan's father, also named Mustapha, is supreme captain of the Nation of Islam.
Farrakhan averaged 17.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.6 rebounds last year at Thornton Township. He also had visited Penn State and had offers from Vanderbilt, Wisconsin and Wyoming, according to rivals.com.
Leitao has connections in the Chicago area dating to his time as the head coach at DePaul.
