Less than 24 hours after returning from a weekend visit to Virginia, Georgia player of the year Malcolm Brogdon committed Monday to play basketball for the Cavaliers.
Brogdon, a 6-foot-5 perimeter player, scored more than 20 points per game last season for Greater Atlanta Christian Academy.
Named state AA player of the year as a junior, Brogdon was described by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution as a favorite for Mr. Georgia Basketball.
Brogdon, a 3.5 student, had more than a dozen Division I scholarship offers. Brogdon told rivals.com last week that the schools he was considering most seriously were UVa, Clemson, Georgia, Minnesota and Harvard.
He averaged 18.8 points and 7.8 rebounds while playing for the Georgia Stars at the Peach Jam, one of the summer's premier AAU events.
He becomes the second player to commit to Virginia for 2011-2012, joining 6-7 Paul Jesperson from Merrill, Wis. Brogdon is rated the No. 115 prospect on the most recent rivals.com list.
He also had offers from Notre Dame, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Providence and Butler.
