CHARLOTTESVILLE -- The Virginia men's basketball team defeated Carson-Newman 124-65 on Sunday in an exhibition game at John Paul Jones Arena.
Virginia senior Adrian Joseph led all scorers with 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field, and junior Mamadi Diane added 19 points and a game-high eight rebounds and four steals. Sophomore Jamil Tucker had 16 points off the bench.
Three players appearing for the Cavaliers for the first time scored in double figures. Freshman Jeff Jones started at guard and had 12 points and six rebounds, while freshman guard Mustapha Farrakhan and sophomore guard Calvin Baker had 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Senior guard Sean Singletary and freshman guard Sammy Zeglinski had five assists each to lead the team. Senior center Tunji Soroye led Virginia with four blocks.
The Cavaliers open their regular season at home at 2 p.m., on Sunday against Vermont.
