Clifton Richardson, listed as Virginia's No. 3 tailback at the end of spring drills, has received a release from his scholarship after two seasons at UVa.p
Richardson carried 72 times for 366 yards and two touchdowns in 2011, when he played in all 13 games as a freshman on UVa's Chick-Fil-A Bowl team. However, injuries limited him to seven games and 24 carries last season.
"Clifton will be leaving the university in good academic standing," UVa coach Mike London said in a statement distributed by the school.
Richardson was rated the No. 10 prospect in Virginia by The Roanoke Times when he was a senior at Menchville High School in Newport News.
Junior Kevin Parks was listed as Virginia's No. 1 running back following spring drills, followed by classmate Khalek Shepherd.
