Former Virginia basketball star and 10-year NBA veteran Bryant Stith has been hired as an assistant for new Old Dominino men's basketball coach Jeff Jones, the school comfirmed on Friday.
Stith, 42, comes to ODU from his alma mater, Brunswick High, about 90 minutes west of Norfolk. He coached the Bulldogs to three straight state titles and also served as athletic director.
A three-time All-ACC pick, Stith remains Virginia's all-time leading scorer, with 2,516 points. He scored 5,946 points in 10 NBA seasons, retiring in 2002.
Jones was a UVa assistant when Stith arrived in Charlottesville in 1988, and was the Cavaliers' head coach for Stith's final two seasons.
