Virginia standout Jarmere Jenkins has been named the ACC’s male athlete of the year for the 2012-13 school year.

Jenkins won the Anthony J. McKevlin Award in voting by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.

Crystal Dunn, who helped North Carolina win the NCAA women’s soccer title, was voted the Mary Garber Award as the ACC’s female athlete of the year.

As a senior this year, Jenkins made the NCAA singles final, won the NCAA doubles crown with Mac Styslinger and helped UVa win the NCAA team title.

Each ACC school nominated one male athlete and one female athlete. Other contenders for the McKevlin included Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd and Virginia Tech point guard Erick Green.

Past McKevlin winners include J.J. Redick, Philip Rivers and Michael Jordan.

Jenkins became the fifth Cavalier to win the McKevlin Award.
