Weekly Racing challenge
BROOKLYN, Mich. -- Only rain beat Kasey Kahne. He didn't mind.
Kahne started first and finished there when rain ended Sunday's NASCAR Nextel Cup race at Michigan International Speedway 71 laps early.
Kahne's series-high fourth victory of the season continued his dominance on tracks 1 12-2 miles long. He's won the last four races at such tracks.
Carl Edwards finished second with Dale Earnhardt Jr., Greg Biffle and rookie Reed Sorenson completing the top five. Points leader Jimmie Johnson was sixth.
Kahne's victory was not as dominating as his most recent win, which came in last month's Coca-Cola 600. He damaged the car in practice Saturday when he slapped the wall. A plastic wrapper collected on Kahne's grille about 45 laps into the race, overheating his engine. He pitted so the crew could remove the trash, but lost a lap and fell to 38th. Kahne got back on the lead lap when rain slowed the race on lap 55.
He moved through the field with pit strategy and a fast car. Kahne returned to the top 10 by lap 90 and took the lead on lap 117. Rain stopped the race 12 laps later.
It didn't matter how it happened, Kahne was happy to get another victory this season after only one in his first two seasons.
"To say we'd have four wins and four poles [by] Michigan, that would have been a tough thing to think it was for real, but it is,'' said Kahne, who earned $205,364.
Tough day
Tony Stewart took out his frustration on his car. After he crashed.
Jeff Green tapped Stewart, who spun and backed into the wall 22 laps into the race. Stewart lost about 70 laps for repairs and finished 41st. He dropped two spots to sixth the points.
"We got taken out by a pretty stupid move,'' said Stewart.
After the race, Stewart's temper cooled and called the incident "just racing.'' Green said he made a mistake.
Tough day II
Matt Kenseth ran more laps than Stewart, but it wasn't much easier.
Kenseth suffered right front damage when he collided with Bill Lester on pit road on lap 12. Kenseth spun about 50 laps later. He lost a lap and later got it back. He finished 13th.
More Toyotas
Michael Waltrip says he wants to field a three-car Nextel Cup team next season for Toyota.
Waltrip says the team plans to decide by mid-July if to have three cars, pending sponsorship. Waltrip will drive a NAPA-sponsored car. He announced that Domino's and Burger King will be the primary sponsors for another car.
Changing look
NASCAR is working on its 2007 schedules. One change expected will take place next July. The New Hampshire race is expected to be moved to July 1 before the Daytona race, which will be held July 7.
Also, Martinsville's two Cup races next season, as of now, are expected to remain about the same time in the schedule with one race in the Chase.
Pit stops
The Toronto Sun reported that NASCAR will have a Busch race in Canada next year. The series will race on Montreal's road course. The track hosts the Canadian Grand Prix Formula One race this week. ... Bill Lester, competing in his second Cup race, finished 32nd for Bill Davis Racing.
