BUCHANAN - Sherman Austin scored on a 1-yard run with 2:06 left in the game, and James River defeated visiting Glenvar 27-20 in Friday night football action.

Austin completed 18 of 21 passes for 209 yards and touchdown for the Knights (1-1). Austin also ran for two TDs.

Teammate Caleb Sink rushed for 70 yards on 18 carries.

Tyler Smith ran for 112 yards and two TDs on 26 carries for the Highlanders (1-1), Levi Mullen completed 15 of 24 passes for 136 yards.

BASSETT - Andrew Harris rushed for 153 yards and three touchdowns to help the Eagles (1-1, 1-0 Piedmont District) defeat the Bengals (1-1, 0-1).

Carlton Adams rushed for 49 yards on 12 carries for two touchdowns. Hunter Ingram and Shaun Rinn each added rushing touchdowns.

Devonte Jordan led the Bengals in rushing with 44 yards on nine carries, and returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown. Tae Ross returned a kickoff 30 yards for a touchdown in the losing effort.

Rust finished with six catches for 150 yards and three scores.

The other Kessinger TD went to Daniel Persinger, who had three catches for 37 yards and the score.

POWHATAN - A big night for Max Revercomb through the air and by Ryan Dent on the ground carried North Cross (1-1) over Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot (2-1).

Revercomb recovered from a pick six that put the Raiders in an early 9-0 hole, throwing for 209 yards and two TDs, including a 35-yard strike to Isiah Harris.

Dent carried 18 times for 151 and scored on runs of 29 and 2 yards. Joseph Cartledge's interception in the end zone with 2:30 remaining sealed the win for the Raiders.

Specialist Michael McInnis scored a touchdown receiving and rushing for the Celtics.

BASTIAN - Chase Heldreth scored on a 6-yard run in overtime and Josh Copenhaver kicked the extra point to give the Indians (1-1) a victory over the Bears (0-2).

After Rural Retreat took the lead in OT, Mason Christian scored on a 6-yard run for the Bears. But Rural Retreat blocked the extra-point kick to secure the win.

Heldreth completed six of 16 passes for 162 yards and two TDs. Jordan Corvin ran for two TDs for Rural Retreat.

Christian ran for three TDs. Aaron Rose ran for a TD and scored on a 74-yard kickoff return for Bland County.

Tyler Irby and Brandon Petrey each had nine tackles and combined for four sacks for Auburn (2-0), which held the Rockets (1-1) to just 73 yards of total offense, most of which came on a 44-yard pass from Cody Dunbar to Nate Jennings.
