High school roundup: Knights top Cavs in volleyball opener

Charity Klimaitis recorded 11 kills as Cave Spring opened its volleyball season with a 25-14, 22-25, 26-24, 25-20 win over Jefferson Forest on Wednesday.

Tessa Klimaitis had 10 kills, 10 aces, and six blocks for the Knights (1-0), while senior Olivia Sass had 34 assists to reach 1000 for her career.

11-25, 16-25, 7-25

BLAND — Makenzie Govin recorded four kills and 11 digs as George Wythe defeated Bland in three sets.

Jasmine Harber had three kills, two blocks and four digs for George Wythe. Kailey Ingo added one block and two digs.

Giles def. Narrows 25-12, 25-12, 25-10

PEARISBURG — The Spartans (4-0) won their fourth game to start the season unbeaten, defeating Green Wave in straight games.

Alex Hawk had a team-high 10 kills and added 11 digs in the win . Alex Pennington recorded a team-high 13 assists and also had 11 digs. Karli Beechler contributed five kills, and Tori Belcher had 11 digs for Giles. Radford def. Pulaski County

DUBLIN — The Bobcats won in straight games to hand the Cougars (0-3) their third straight loss.

Maegen Memitt had a team-high six kills for the Cougars.

Erin Hamric added four kills and two blocks. Lauren Shumate contributed a team-high 11 assists.

Eastern Montgomery def. Rural Retreat 25-22, 25-17, 25-16

RURAL RETREAT — The Mustangs (1-3) picked up their first win of the season, beating the Indians (0-2) in straight games on the road.

Aston Graham had a team-high 12 kills and seven digs for EastMont. Sarah Simpson recorded 10 kills, three aces and two blocks. Scarlett Sisson logged a team-high 20 assists and had three aces in the win.

Chloe Phoenix contributed four aces, three digs, three kills, and five assists for the Mustangs.

20-25, 25-18, 25-14, 26-28, 15-12

LOW MOOR — Letisha Clarke had a team-high 28 kills, 10 blocks, and 18 digs to help the Cougars (3-1) defeat the Mountaineers in five games.

Burke Staunton logged a team-high 34 assists for Covington. Dakota Botkins had eight kills and five blocks, while Laramie McCallister recorded 10 digs .

North Cross 3, Virginia Episcopal 2

LYNCHBURG — Christian Entleitner’s hat trick helped North Cross edge Virginia Episcopal School.

Chris Pollock had two assists for the Raiders (3-0-1), who got five saves from keeper Bennett Holley.

David Loescher had both goals for VES (0-3).
