Timesland high schools: North Cross game at VES suspended

LYNCHBURG - The North Cross-Virginia Episcopal football game was suspended until Monday due to lightning with 4:15 remaining in the third quarter on Saturday.

The Bishops were leading 30-21, but the Raiders had a first down at the VES 19 when the game was delayed.

FLOYD - Conner Lundy fired two touchdown passes to Duncan Reece, and the Cavaliers scored 28 points in the final eight minutes of the first half en route to a win Friday night.

Lundy finished with 156 yards passing.

Five Cavaliers - Lundy, Ethan Underwood, Kendall Edwards, Josh Blankenship and Brennan Vaught - had rushing TDs including Vaught's 85-yarder on the final play of the game.

Floyd, which led 14-7, got TD runs of 15 and 21 yards from Matt Bary, who finished with 86 yards on 12 carries and passed for 103 yards.

Grayson County 41, Alleghany (N.C.) 28

SPARTA, N.C. - Max Rodgers passed for 326 yards and two touchdowns, and the senior quarterback ran for 77 yards and two more scores as the Blue Devils stopped the Trojans on Friday.

Rodgers threw TD passes of 52, 66 and 14 yards to Ty Cannaday, a senior who is playing his first year of varsity football.

Cannaday's third TD put the game out of reach after Alleghany had cut the lead to 35-28.

Rodgers had 403 of Grayson's 438 yards of total offense.

Chandler Caudill ran for 178 yards and a pair of scores for Alleghany.

EDEN, N.C. - Quarterback Will Dabbs threw three touchdown passes as the Panthers spoiled the head coaching debut of the Bulldogs' Orion Martin on Friday.

Dabbs fired a 36-yard TD pass to Mike Jones in the first quarter. He added two more TD passes in the first half and finished 14 of 18 through the air for 204 yards.

DANBURY, N.C. - Devonte Jordan ran for 101 yards and four touchdowns on just five carries, and the junior quarterback added another 145 yards passing as the Bengals rolled in their season opener Friday.

Loje Witcher led Bassett on the ground with 126 yards on nine carries. Witcher and Tay Ross added rushing TDs.

Ross also caught three passes for 60 yards, while Ryan Wilkerson had two catches for 58 yards.

Bassett put the game away with a 26-point third quarter.

HOT SPRINGS - SaMone Moore had eight kills, and Burke Staunton added 22 assists for Covington in its first game of the Bath County tournament.
