High schools: Defending soccer champion North Cross gets win

Christian Entleitner scored two goals and North Cross, the defending VISAA Division II boys soccer champion, opened the 2013 season with a 5-0 win over New Covenant on Friday on the Raiders' home field.

Ezra Zigarwi, Evan Elwell and Jonty Chimbera also scored for North Cross, which had 20 shots on goal.

Gray Pollock added two assists for the Raiders, and keeper Bennett Holley made five saves.

Ethan Thornburg made 12 saves for New Covenant (0-2)

25-20, 25-14, 25-18

Darain Finnerty had 16 kills, and Taylor Tanzar added eight for the visiting Tornadoes (2-0). Ashlen Whitt recorded 25 assists.

Anne Ickes had three kills, and Amy Eggeston added two kills, five digs and three aces for the Raiders (1-1).
