Cave Spring’s Taylor Asimakopoulos and James River’s Jenna Sprinkle have earned top honors on the 2013 all-state softball teams selected by the Virginia High School Coaches Association.

Asimakopoulos was named Group AA pitcher of the year after leading the Knights to their first state championship.

Sprinkle, a first baseman, was named Group A player of the year for helping the Knights earn a spot in the Division 2 state semifinals.

Cave Spring’s Nick Sharp was named Group AA coach of the year. Scott Thompson of Floyd County was named Group A Division 2 coach of the year.

Also making first-team All-Group AA were outfielders Taylor Carter of Northside and Cortney Cooper of Cave Spring, and designated player Taylor Mabry of Bassett.

Pitcher Christene Phillips and outfielder Dani Harris of Floyd County and Auburn catcher Sarah Smith also made first-team All-Group A.

Second-team All-Group AA picks included pitcher Cassidy Hensley of Liberty, catcher Hannah Savedge of Magna Vista, catcher Hailey Porth of Blacksburg, and infielders Kristen Toppel of Lord Botetourt and Sara Wright of Pulaski County.

Infielder Amber Chrisley of Fort Chiswell was named second-team All-Group A.

Franklin County’s Mackenzie Chitwood was a second-team pick in the All-Group AAA team.

Chelsea Whitcomb of Cosby was named Group AAA player of the year, while Danyele Smith of Broadway was the Group AA player of the year.
