Salem's Drougas, Roanoke's Wood win Commonwealth Games tennis titles

Salem rising senior Michael Drougas won the Virginia Commonwealth Games 18-under boys singles tennis title with a 6-1, 6-1 win over North Cross rising sophomore Michael Fleming on Sunday at the Rivers Edge Tennis Complex.

Drougas, the reigning Group AA boys singles champion, beat Antoine Timbers of Harrisonburg 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinals. Fleming defeated Joseph Brown of Richmond in the semis 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.

Other boys division winners included Andy Mason of Franklin (16 singles), Blacksburg's Aidan Davy (14 singles), Blacksburg's Dawson Driscoll (12 singles) and Sam Clark of Roanoke (10 singles).

On the girls side, Ellen Wood of Roanoke won both the 16 and 14 singles title.

The adult portion of the Commonwealth Games tennis will be played next weekend.
