VHSCA all-star results: Lord Botetourt's Cline, Chilhowie’s Haga lead West baseball

HAMPTON — Lord Botetourt graduate Will Cline hit a three-run home run, and team West MVP Forrest Haga (Chilhowie) added two hits and an RBI as the West scored two or more runs in four separate innings on the way to a 12-3 baseball victory Wednesday at War Memorial Stadium.

Drew Cox (Radford) also had two hits for the West. William Byrd graduate Colin Hill pitched a scoreless inning in relief of winning pitcher Joe Burris (Albemarle), and also hit a two-run triple.

Girls soccer
West 2, East 0

NEWPORT NEWS — Patrick Henry graduate Tricia Jessee scored a second-half goal to help the West win the VHSCA girls soccer all-star game at Christopher Newport.

Keeper Laura Albert (Blacksburg) made six saves.

Boys soccer
East 5, West 1

NEWPORT NEWS — The East scored the first five goals of the game and went on to win.

Blacksburg graduate Garland Smith scored in the second half for the West. Keeper Tanner Weaver (William Byrd) made seven saves.

All-star games moving to Lynchburg in 2014

LYNCHBURG — After a 21-year hiatus, Lynchburg will once again host the Virginia High School Coaches Association all-star games for three years. The news was announced Wednesday afternoon.

Lynchburg College and Liberty University are scheduled to host all athletic events.
