Player of the Year
SARA WRIGHT | Pulaski County | Senior
WRIGHT, the River Ridge District player of the year and an All-Region IV pick, impressed area college and high school coaches with her hitting prowess. Wright, who moved from first base to shortstop during the season to replace a sidelined teammate, hit .534 with eight doubles, seven homers, 26 RBIs, 26 runs scored, six stolen bases and a 1.034 slugging percentage. She will be a member of James Madison's team as a walk-on.
Pitcher of the Year
CASSIDY HENSLEY | Liberty | Senior
HENSLEY, the Seminole District pitcher of the year and an All-Region III pick, went 16-5 with a 0.75 ERA, 187 strikeouts and 22 walks in 129 1⁄3 innings. Playing for a team that started six freshmen, Hensley had 13 shutouts, 20 complete games, two no-hitters and a perfect game. Hensley, who had 757 career strikeouts, will be a nonplaying student at JMU. She has made the All-Timesland first or second team in all four years at Liberty.

Thompson steered the Buffaloes to the Three Rivers District regular-season title; their first regional crown since 2001; and their first state championship. Thompson, in his second year at the helm, guided a squad with just one senior starter to a 23-3 mark. He made smart decisions about his pitchers during the regional and state tournaments.
