SALEM - Emily Kendrick hit a two-out go-ahead three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth and tossed a complete game three-hitter to power Honaker to a 3-1 win over Madison County for the Group A Division 1 state softball championship on Sunday morning at the Moyer Softball Complex.

It was the Tigers' second state title, but the first since 1988.

The Mountaineers took a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the top half of the sixth.

In the bottom half of the frame, a leadoff single by Allie Baker and a one-out base knock from Leah Elswick put the game-tying and go-ahead run on base.

Following the second out, Kendrick stepped up and hit a ball that was just out of the reach of the left fielder as it cleared the fence for the game-winning long ball.

Kendrick struck out seven, walked two and was able to get out of a few jams as Madison County stranded six runners.

Lauren Seale suffered the defeat, allowing just four hits and striking out nine for the Mountaineers. She also tripled and scored their lone run.

Reid Entsminger tripled in the second and scored the first run of the game for Sherando when Bentley singled him home.

Tunstall scored their lone run when Gavin Payne grounded into a fielder's choice with the bases loaded in the fourth inning.

SALEM - Kyle Bishop pitched a complete game four-hit shutout and Kyle Wilson drove in two runs as the Gladiators claimed their first Group A Division 1 championship in baseball by defeating the Generals at the VHSL Spring Jubilee.

Cody Swisher also had a hit, RBI and run scored for Riverheads.

William Campbell pitcher Zach Sligh also pitched a complete game giving up four hits, but two fielding errors cost them dearly while their offense struggled against Bishop.
