FLOYD - Pinch-hitter Bryan Callahan belted a walk-off grand slam and host Floyd County defeated James River 9-6 on Monday in the Region C baseball quarterfinals.
Winning pitcher Gus Underwood allowed three hits in the final two innings and recorded two strikeouts.
Kaleb Gunter had three hits, two RBIs and scored a run for the Knights (10-12). Teammate Mitchell Lanning pitched five innings with seven strikeouts, three walks and three hits.
The Buffaloes (13-8) play Grayson County in Wednesday's semifinals.
Magna Vista 8, Tazewell 5, 8 inn.
TAZEWELL - Matt Compton had a two-RBI single to lead the Warriors past the Bulldogs.
Magna Vista scored three runs in the eighth inning to secure their entry into the next round.
REGION C DIVISION 2
Grayson County 4, Fort Chiswell 2
INDEPENDENCE - Spencer Roberts' two-run double in the sixth inning lifted the Blue Devils over the Pioneers.
Fort Chiswell (8-11) scored twice in the first inning, as Brett Mabry hit a solo home run and Coleman Thomas had an RBI-double.
Grayson County (17-5) scored a run in the third and three in the sixth inning to take the lead.
Ty Cannaday drove in a run and scored a run.
Chilhowie 7, Giles 2
CHILHOWIE - Caleb Sheets drove in two runs, and along with two other Warrior pitchers, two-hit the Spartans in the first round of the Region C Division 2 tournament.
Sheets started the game for Chilhowie (22-1), struck out six and didn't give up a hit. Dustin Creasy and Tyler Pierce combined to pitch the remainder of the game for the Warriors, allowing one hit and three walks each.
Pierce tripled and scored twice for Chilhowie.
Chantry Pennington had an RBI single and Tyler Perdue scored twice for Giles (7-14-1).
REGION C DIVISION 1
Galax 12, Narrows 11
GALAX - Nick Davis singled in Chandler Quesenberry with two out in the bottom of the seventh to cap a six run rally for Galax (13-10), which advanced to the Region C Division 1 semfinals.
The Maroon Tide had four hits, drew two walks and got another baserunner on a hit-batsman in the seventh.
Caleb Pack hit a two-run home run in the inning for Galax.
Will Patteson had a single, solo home run and drew two walks for Narrows (13-8-1). Rodney Perdue also hit a two-run home run for the Green Wave.
Auburn 6, Northwood 3
RINER - Erik Gaynor, Levi Bower and Normand Daigenault drove in two runs each as the Eagles rallied for a win over the Panthers in the first round of the regional tournament.
Auburn led 1-0 after one inning, but Northwood scored three in the top of the second to take the lead. The Eagles answered with three of their own in the bottom half of the second and tacked on two more in the fourth inning.
Trevor Poore led Northwood with two hits and an RBI.
Franklin County 3, Osbourn Park 2
MANASSAS - Hannah Dudley drove in the tying run and then scored the eventual winning run in the fifth inning as the Eagles edged the Yellow Jackets in the Northwest Region quarterfinals.
Osbourn Park (20-3) took the lead in the third inning with an RBI-double by Jessica South and an RBI-single by Olivia Swahn.
Mackenzie Chitwood hit a solo home run in the fourth inning for Franklin County (16-9). Dudley doubled in Taylor Greenway to tie the game and then scored on a single by Sierra Naff.
Franklin County plays Orange County on Wednesday.
Carroll County 12, Bassett 7
HILLSVILLE - Eden Durnell had three hits, including a grand slam, as the Cavaliers downed the Bengals in the first round of the Region IV tournament.
Cheyenne Strickland added two RBIs and a solo home run, while Ragan Halsey had four hits and scored twice for Carroll County (18-7).
Madison Haynes led Bassett with three RBIs and Abby Williams added three hits and drove in two.
Brookville 4, Rockbridge County 3
LYNCHBURG - Allen Gutierrez scored one goal and had one assist to lead Brookville.
Eli Spencer scored twice for the Wildcats, and Miles Dent scored once.
Brookville advanced to play E.C. Glass on Wednesday.
Galax 8, Auburn 0
GALAX - Mario Carranza tallied three goals and an assist as the Maroon Tide stayed undefeated with a win over the Eagles in the first round of the Region C tournament.
Andres Medina and Edgar Guzman added two goals each for Galax (19-0) and Felix Medina had one goal.
Galax faces Giles at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Giles 6, James River 1
BUCHANAN - Jake Stegal scored twice for the Spartans as they defeated the Knights (8-9).
Garrett Lee, Justin Smith, Wyatt Link, and Matt Keaton each added a goal for the Spartans.
Dylan Flint scored the Knights' lone goal.
Giles (12-5) plays undefeated Galax (19-0) on Wednesday night at George Wythe.
William Byrd 3, Liberty 2 (3OT)
BEDFORD - Within the first minute of the third overtime period Terrier Rachel Nicely scored her third goal to oust Liberty.
Byrd keeper Hannah Henley had eight saves.
Lizzie Boone led the way for Liberty (9-6-1), scoring both goals. Liberty goalie Jillian Blackburn had 12 saves.
William Byrd (11-8) plays Jefferson Forest on Wednesday.
Tazewell 2, Martinsville 0
TAZEWELL - Taylor Catron scored twice in the first half to lead Tazewell over Martinsville.
Teammate Kate Snapp made 12 saves.
Tazewell (7-7-1) plays at Blacksburg today.
James River 9, Glenvar 0
BUCHANAN - Kendall Moyer tallied six goals as the Knights ended the Highlanders' season.
Valintina Donnini added two goals for James River, and Baylee Coleman scored once.
James River plays Graham on Wednesday.
Titans advance in singles, doubles
RICHLANDS - Hidden Valley's Tim Roehr won first-round singles and doubles matches without losing a game to advance to today's semifinals.
Roehr defeated Rees Bowen of Richlands 6-0, 6-0 in singles to reach today's 2 p.m. semifinal in Martinsville against Jordan Hancock of Bassett.
Roehr and teammate Garrett Brown then blanked Bowen and Jonathan Keen 6-0, 6-0 in doubles.
The Hidden Valley pair will face Hancock and Donnie Burks of Bassett today.
ELKTON - E.C. Glass' Nick Daly and Thacher Jennings each advanced to the singles championship, while Northside's Fu Yang was eliminated.
Josh Rodgers of Spotswood defeated Yang, 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinal round. Jennings and Daly each won a quarterfinals and semifinals match and will play each other in the championship today at 10 a.m.
Daly paired with Luc Mortemousque and Jennings with Mitchell Swann, each doubles pairing advancing to the semifinals. Daly and Mortemousque face Taylor Garber and Josh Bollinger of Turner Ashby, while Jennings and Swann face Joe Dillenbeck and Josh Rodgers of Spotswood.
Choi, Morris move on in singles
BASSETT - Blacksburg's Kristy Choi and Bassett's Claudia Morris advanced to the singles semifinals with lopsided first-round victories at Bassett High School.
Choi defeated Samantha Easley of Martinsville 6-0, 6-0 to earn match with Abingdon's Emily Henderson at 2 p.m. today at Virginia Tech.
Morris stopped Carroll County's Danielle Daugherty 6-3, 6-0 to set up a semifinal against Hidden Valley's Ceyda Durmaz, also at Tech.
Cave Spring's duo of Fallon Delp and Kelsey Dickerson, and the Martinsville tandem of Easley and Virginia Crabtree advanced with first-round doubles wins.
PENN LAIRD - In the Region III singles finals Holly Knupp of Broadway will play Karlie Pope of Northside.
Pope defeated Sarah Donaire of Broadway 6-2, 6-2 and then went on to steal a win from Brianna De La Garza 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. The Viking was down 4-2 in the final set and won the remaining four games to claim the win. De La Garza won her first round match over Claire Gross of Lord Botetourt, 6-0, 6-0.
Knupp beat Molly Mays of Amherst and Sydney Moon of E.C. Glass to advance to the Regional final. In Doubles, Pope teamed with Hallie Cole to down De La Garza and Abby Hunter 6-3, 6-3 while Knupp and Whitney Cash beat Northside's Andrea Elrod and Kayla Besase 6-1, 6-0. Broadway's Sarah Donaire and Oliva Driver beat Morgan Tyree and Lauren Swan of Brookville.
