HOT SPRINGS - Patrick Burns set a new VHSL record for goals in a boys soccer game as he netted 10 for Alleghany on Wednesday night, leading the Mountaineers to a 10-0 win over Bath County.
The previous record was nine, a mark set on April 21, 1992, by Billy Lanza of Osbourn Park.
Milliyon Fasseha had four assists for Alleghany (6-1-1).
Nehemiah Vance, Troy Welch, Logan Holley, Humberto Arreguin and Austin Cole all added one assist each for the Mountaineers, which led 4-0 at the half.
Noah Green and Nick Rusmissel had one save each for Alleghany.
Jefferson Forest 4, Heritage 3
FOREST - Tyler Lucy went 2 for 4 and had the game winning RBI for Jefferson Forest.
Cameron Byrd also went 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Cavaliers (9-3, 1-4).
Zach Hammersmith had one hit and three RBIs for Heritage (5-8, 1-4). Marshall Davis had two hits and scored two runs.
Patrick Henry 6, Blacksburg 4
Corey Haith came in after the Patriots had given up four runs in the top of the first and pitched shutout ball the rest of the way as Patrick Henry rallied to beat the Bruins.
Center fielder Evan Deyerle knocked in the tying and go-ahead runs with a double, and catcher Jake Wright and leftfielder Austin Lowman had two hits apiece for the Patriots (1-7).
Catcher Jake Shrimer had two hits for the Bruins (8-4).
Northwood 5, Bland County 0
BLAND - Jason Prater hit a solo home run in the second inning and helped Northwood into the championship game of the Yo-Na Invitational.
Channing Call added an RBI and two hits for Northwood. Prater and Chaz Jones had two hits each for the Panthers.
Caleb Lambert and Zach Gwyn led Bland (4-3) with two hits each.
Cameron Sauls struck out nine and allowed six hits over seven innings for the win. Bland used five pitchers.
James River 21, Auburn 12
BUCHANAN - Auburn scored eight runs in the top of the first and led 8-4 after four innings, but could not hold on as James River came back in a hitting contest.
James River answered with four runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by back-to-back home runs from Kaleb Gunter and Mitchell Lanning. The Knights took over with a five-run fourth, added six runs in the fifth, and shut the door on the Eagles with seven runs in the sixth.
Josh Jones had three hits and four RBIs, Bayard Stevens had three hits and three RBIs and Garrett Dorton also had three hits to go with two RBIs. Pitching in relief, Dorton struck out five and did not give up a hit for the Knights (4-6).
Caleb Link had two hits, including a double, for Auburn (8-2). Tanner DeHart doubled as well.
Lord Botetourt 7, Liberty 4
DALEVILLE - Ryan Oliver struck out 13, gave up six hits and allowed one walk as Lord Botetourt defeated Liberty.
Offensively, Oliver went 2 for 3 with one RBI.
Will Cline had two hits, including a double, and Nick Webb went 2 for 3 and scored two runs for the Cavaliers (7-2).
Thomas Key scored two runs for Liberty (2-7).
Rockbridge County 6, Robert E. Lee 0
LEXINGTON - Kevin Landeros scored twice in the first 14 minutes as Rockbridge County shut out Robert E. Lee.
Luis Ramirez assisted on one of the Landeros goals, then scored two of his own as the Wildcats took a 4-0 lead at halftime.
Clay Penney made two saves as Rockbridge (5-3) held the Fighting Leemen scoreless for the second time this season.
Galax 5, Carroll County 0
HILLSVILLE - Andres Medina had a pair of goals to pace Galax.
Luis Turcios added a goal on a corner kick from Mario Carranza. Carranza and Edgar Guzman added a goal each for Galax (7-0) as the Maroon Tide broke open a scoreless halftime draw.
Mesiel Solis stopped six shots for Galax.
WESTERN VALLEY DISTRICT
Patrick Henry 2, William Fleming 0
Ben Greenawald scored unassisted in the first half as the Patriots opened up a 1-0 lead.
After the break, Griffin Davidson scored the second goal for Patrick Henry (4-2-2, 2-0) off of a corner kick from Erik Agren.
Keeper Moore Dolue had seven saves for William Fleming (2-3-2, 1-1).
Liberty 7, Rustburg 0
BEDFORD - Laura Garbarina led the Minutemen with four goals.
Barndi Wertz, Grace Parker and Audrey McCondes all had one goal each for Liberty (3-3, 3-2).
Alleghany 9, Bath County 0
HOT SPRINGS - Laura Farrar netted five goals and added an assist as Alleghany blanked Bath County.
Anna Bowker added a goal and an assist and Clair Secner had a pair of goals. Kelsie Charles scored a goal and Michaela Kern added an assist for Alleghany (2-4).
Samantha Spraker made four saves for Alleghany.
Jefferson Forest 1, Lord Botetourt 0
DALEVILLE - Lord Botetourt failed to connect on a penalty kick with three and a half minutes remaining and Jefferson Forest went on to win.
Alyssa Mitchell scored for Jefferson Forest (6-0-1) in the first half.
Both of Lord Botetourt's (5-2) losses have come against Jefferson Forest.
Carroll County 4, Floyd County 1
FLOYD - Cheyenne Strickland banged out a three-run homer in the sixth inning as Carroll County (8-1) handed Floyd its first loss.
Katie Pendleton had two hits for Floyd (8-1).
Blacksburg 14, Patrick Henry 6
BLACKSBURG - Lauren Williams doubled four times and scored three runs as Blacksburg rolled past Patrick Henry.
Hailey Porth also had four hits and scored three times, adding four RBIs for the Bruins (6-2). Alanah Slad also drove in four runs for Blacksburg.
Maggie Hancock scattered nine hits in a complete-game win.
Alexis Cox had three hits and drove in a run for PH (4-8).
Liberty 2, William Byrd 0
BEDFORD - Samantha Baldwin drove in Kasey Carr twice to lead Liberty to a win.
Cassidy Hensley struck out 12 and allowed three hits over seven innings to pick up the win for Liberty (11-0).
Three different players registered a hit for Byrd (3-7) and Ashley Sherk gave up five hits over 5 1/3 innings in the loss.

Lord Botetourt 6, Rockbridge County 1
LEXINGTON - Gretchen Goldsmith and Emily Barranco each scored two goals and Lord Botetourt defeated Rockbridge County on Tuesday.
Logan Lumsden and Kellen Spradlin also scored for the Cavaliers (5-1, 2-0).
Northside 6, Staunton River 2
Emily Rawlings had two goals and three assists as the Vikings recovered from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Golden Eagles in a Blue Ridge District match.
Brianna Childs, Kari Furrow and Trish Flick each had a goal for Northside (4-2-2, 3-0). Emma Wade had a goal and two assists. Teammates Casey Carty and McKinsey Payne each had an assist. Kelsey Altizer had six saves.
Taylor Tester had both goals for Staunton River (6-1, 1-1). Lauren Greene had an assist. Jaelyn Tuck had seven saves.
