Timesland Player of the Year
TAY TAYLOR | SALEM | Senior
TAYLOR, 5-7, completed her prep career by leading Salem to its first VHSL girls state title as the Spartans won their last 18 games. A strong penetrator from the wing guard or point guard position, Taylor scored 22 points and had six assists in Salem's 51-44 win over Courtland in the Group AA Division 4 final. She scored in double figures in 28 of Salem's 29 games including a season-high 25 points in a loss to Floyd County. Taylor averaged 17.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.8 steals per game. She averaged 20.3 points in Salem's last four games including 24 in a state semifinal win over Loudoun County. The Wake Forest signee was named Group AA Division 4 player of the year.

Harrell led Salem to the Group AA Division 4 championship with a 51-44 victory over Courtland after the Spartans lost to the Cougars by 40 points in the semifinals in 2012. Salem did not lose to a Group AA opponent and went 10-0 in the River Ridge District for the second straight year. Salem has won 88 games under Harrell in the past four seasons.
