Timesland Player of the Year

ANDREW ROWSEY | ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY | Senior

ROWSEY, 5-11, averaged 35.8 points per game and finished No. 2 on the VHSL career scoring list with 2,636 points. His 931 points were 17 shy of the VHSL single-season record of 948 set by Allen Iverson. Rowsey broke the VHSL single-season senior class scoring record previously held by Moses Malone. Despite facing double-team defenses, Rowsey shot 49.2 percent from the field. The UNC-Asheville signee also averaged 6.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists while shooting 88.8 percent from the foul line. He matched a Timesland single-game scoring record with 60 points vs. Stuarts Draft. Rowsey was named Group AA Division 3 co-player of the year by the VHSCA.

MARCUS BANKS | PATRICK HENRY | 5-5 | Senior

Became Patrick Henry’s career scoring leader and averaged 20.2 points per game as a senior ... Scored 31 and 29 points in games against George Washington and had 32 vs. Rockbridge County ... Also averaged 3.2 assists and shot 38.5 percent from 3-point range ... Signed a letter-of-intent with Potomac State (W.Va.).

JUSTIN GOODE | LORD BOTETOURT | 6-2 | Junior

Averaged 21.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists to lead Botetourt to the Region III Division 4 semifinals ... Hit 43.4 percent of 3-pointers and made 170 of 182 free throws for 93.4 percent ... Scored at least 30 points four times with high of 36 vs. Blacksburg ... Blue Ridge District player of the year and first-team All-Region III.

THON MAKER | CARLISLE | 7-0 | Freshman

Averaged 23.4 points for Carlisle after leaving Country Day in Metairie, La., where he played three games ... Also averaged 12.9 rebounds, 4.9 blocked shots and 2.1 steals ... Led Carlisle to VIC Division II title and spot in VIS Division III semifinals ... Sudan native is considered a top national player in the class of 2016.

CALEB TANNER | FLOYD COUNTY | 6-1 | Junior

Averaged 31.8 points per game while shooting 51.8 percent from the field ... Had a season-high 49 points vs. Auburn and broke the Chance Harman Classic single-game record with 43 points against Grayson County ... Hit 41.0 percent of his 3-pointers and 87.5 percent of free throws ... Region C player of the year.

COACH OF THE YEAR

KEVIN GARST | Salem

Garst turned around the fortunes of a team that started 4-8 and lost its first two River Ridge District games and took the Spartans all the way to a VHSL Group AA Division 4 state title. Salem bounced back from a loss to Carroll County in the Region IV final, then trailed Grafton 9-0 in the championship game before winning 56-48 to finish 19-10.
