RICHMOND - Freshman De'Monte Buckingham scored 18 points - before getting ejected for fighting - and Henrico won its first boys basketball state title by topping rival John Marshall 72-48 in the VHSL Group AAA state championship game Friday at VCU's Siegel Center.

The Warriors (31-2) led 28-15 at the half after the Judges (26-6) went just 16.7 percent from the field in the first two quarters.

AAA Girls

East Rockingham 35, Altavista 31

Sarah Cameron scored 13 points, including two free throws with two seconds remaining, as East Rockingham defeated Altavista in the VHSL Division 1 girls game for their second consecutive title.

Cameron added 10 rebounds and four steals for East Rockingham (29-1), which beat Covington in last season's title game. Meghan Nicholson added eight points and three steals and Jessica Lam scored seven points and had six rebounds for the Eagles.

Altavista (23-5) was led by Sydney Morris with nine points and had 17 rebounds.

East Rockingham held a 10-point lead going into the fourth quarter, but Altavista came back to cut the lead to 32-31 with 3:21 left before the Eagles forced four turnovers over the final 2:40 to hold on.

Division 1 boys

Altavista 80, West Point 62

Darius Johnson had 21 points and 15 rebounds, and Juan Thornhill added 21 points and 10 rebounds as Altavista defeated West Point to win the VHSL Division 1 boys state basketball championship.

Altavista (24-3) never trailed as its converted 27 of 40 field goal attempts (67.5 percent) en route to its second state title.

Jamie Wilson led West Point (21-5) with 26 points and L.A. Allen added 12.

West Point attempted 35 3-pointers, making 12 (34.3 percent).

Altavista, which also won the championship in 2004, outrebounded West Point 40-19 and converted 25 of 38 free throws; West Point was 6 of 10.

Meche Maulbeck scored 16 points and Demetrius Johnson had 13 for Altavista.
