Ross' late heroics rescue Knights

BUCHANAN -- Davon Ross's 81-yard touchdown reception from Ryan Firebaugh late in the fourth quarter broke a tie and vaulted James River to a 34-27 victory over Eastern Montgomery on Friday night.

Firebaugh finished 12-25 for 270 yards passing and four TDs for the Knights (3-3) while Tommy McGee hauled in three passes for 104 yards and two TDs.

Eastern Montgomery (3-2) had six turnovers and was penalized 11 times for 90 yards. Antion Myatt rushed for 75 yards to lead the Mustangs.

Craig County running back-linebacker Matt Wilson suffered a mild concussion. He was taken to Lewis-Gale Medical Center and released.

RINER -- Erik Suttle rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries to lead the Green Wave to victory.

Narrows (2-4) led 27-14 entering the fourth quarter.

Luke Watson of Auburn (1-4) hooked up with Travis Shephard on a 10-yard TD pass to cut the lead to 27-26 with 2:12 left. The Eagles tried for a 2-point conversion, but Watson threw an incomplete pass.
