For the second year in a row, Liberty University has taken an oral commitment from a prominent Roanoke Valley football prospect.

Cave Spring quarterback Josh Woodrum said Monday night that he accepted a scholarship offer from the Flames.

Woodrum also had an offer from Division I-AA Elon and had attracted the interest of Wake Forest, Vanderbilt and Virginia.

A 6-foot-3, 195-pounder, Woodrum accounted for more than 2,500 yards in total offense. In addition to passing for 2,003 yards and 13 touchdowns, he rushed for 567 yards and 10 scores.

He said the Flames' offense has many of the same elements as Cave Spring's spread.

"I just loved the [Liberty] facilities," said Woodrum, who had been to Liberty for a junior day and for a 7-on-7 passing tournament. "They also have the major I want, exercise science. I'd like to be a strength coach."

At Liberty, Woodrum will join 2009 Timesland defensive player of the year Nick Sigmon from Northside. Sigmon and Woodrum were on opposite sides in last season's Group AAA Division 3 semifinals.
