BASEBALL
Rockbridge County 4, Turner Ashby 1
LEXINGTON -- Brandon Miller earned the complete-game win for Rockbridge County (1-0), striking out six and allowing one unearned run in the win over Turner Ashby (0-1).
Miller also went 1-for-3 for the Wildcats.
North Cross 11, William Fleming 0
Craig Hoelzer pitched a one-hit shutout as North Cross (1-0) defeated William Fleming (0-2) in five innings.
Hoelzer struck out eight of the first 10 batters he faced and finished with 12 strikeouts. He also went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Jordan Titzmann went 2-for-2 for the Raiders with a run scored and an RBI. Derek Ray had William Fleming's lone hit.
Patrick County 7, Chatham 6
STUART -- Morgan Boles scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning as Patrick County (2-0) prevailed against Chatham (1-1) in the nondistrict game.
Cougars starter Parker Heath hurled four scoreless innings. Patrick Thompson got the win after 2 23 innings of relief.
Jody Martin hit a solo home run in the third for Patrick County.
Parry McCluer 11, Eastern Montgomery 3
BUENA VISTA -- Dylan Buchanan drove in three runs for the host Fighting Blues on Monday in both teams' season opener.
Boys soccer
Fort Chiswell 3, Auburn 2
RINER -- Lee Price scored two goals in the first half and Gaven Burnett added a second-half goal for Fort Chiswell (1-0). Aurelio Limon and Caleb Shelor each scored for Auburn (0-1).
William Byrd 3, Liberty 0
D.J. Welch scored two goals and added an assist in William Byrd's win over Liberty (1-1). Nick Lefell added a goal and an assist for the Terriers (1-1), who outshot Liberty 24-2.
Girls soccer
North Cross 7, New Covenant 0
India Helmer had two goals and two assists to lead the Raiders (1-0). Paxton Helmer added two goals and Hallie Martin had a goal and two assists. Anna Black and Laura Warren also scored.
SOFTBALL
Hidden Valley 2, Glenvar 1
Despite a leadoff home run by Glenvar's Kayla Dehart, the Titans won the season opener for both teams.
Heather Luckay was the winning pitcher for Hidden Valley, allowing two hits and one run and no walks.
Abby Broughton drove in a run for the Titans.
Franklin County 5, Jefferson Forest 4, 8 innings
ROCKY MOUNT -- Caitlyn Flora hit a walk-off home run in eighth inning to give the host Eagles the victory in the season opener for both teams.
Chelsey Booth struck out 15 batters for Franklin County. She also totaled two hits and drove in a run.
Patrick County 5, Chatham 4, 8 innings
STUART -- Haley Wilson's single in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Patrick County (1-0) the win over Chatham (0-1).
Wilson went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two sacrifices. Her hit in the eighth scored Hannah Smith.
Kayla Hammond went 2-for-3 with two doubles. Brittany Stovall got the win for Patrick County, pitching all eight innings and striking out eight.
Lord Botetourt 6, Salem 0
DALEVILLE -- Samantha Barton shut out Salem (0-2), allowing five hits and striking out six in the Lord Botetourt win.
Savannah Price went 1-for-1 with two RBIs for the Cavaliers (2-0).
BOYS LACROSSE
Hargrave 22, Roanoke Catholic 9
Aaron Montgomery scored six goals to lead Hargrave (1-0).
Christian Akers and Evan Grinde had three goals apiece for the Celtics (0-1). Mark Allman added two goals and Patrick Macher had one goal and three assists.
