Eagles' season comes to an end
DALE CITY -- For everything that Franklin County has accomplished during this 11-win season with a freshman and a sophomore in the starting lineup, the Western Valley District tournament runners-up were no match for Forest Park, which relied on the leadership of senior setter Stephanie Saunders and the powerful swing of Rachel Goss to pull out a 25-18, 24-26, 25-21, 25-17 victory Tuesday in the Northwest Region quarterfinals.
The Eagles lost even though Forest Park (22-2) was playing without star player Kellie Goss, who wore a short-sleeve shirt and sweat pants for the Bruins' regional quarterfinal match. The 6-foot-2 middle hitter had suffered a sprained ankle. She is expected to return for the semifinals.
Franklin County (11-12) got terrific performances from libero Samantha Washburn and outside hitter Jordan Templin, who led the Eagles with 19 kills, but could not keep the momentum it built by winning the second game.

Fort Defiance def. William Byrd 25-18, 25-18, 25-16.

The Terriers (12-12) then fell behind 24-9 in the third set, but scored seven straight points to close to within 24-16.
