Jefferson Forest wins triple-OT thriller against E.C. Glass

LYNCHBURG -- Dylan Sims kicked a 17-yard field goal in the third overtime period to give Jefferson Forest a 31-28 Seminole District victory over E.C. Glass on Friday.

It was Sims' third field goal of the game.

Rashad Hall rushed for 183 yards and one touchdown on 34 carries for the Cavaliers (3-1, 1-0). James Gaines completed nine of 17 passes for three TDs for the Hilltoppers (0-5, 0-1).

Travis Wesley scored on a 2-yard run with 3:12 left in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 14.

In the first overtime, Hunter Hannell threw an 8-yard TD pass to Harrison Loy for JF and Gaines answered with a 9-yard TD pass.

In the second OT, Gaines threw a 10-yard TD pass and Hall answered with a 5-yard TD run.

E.C. Glass got the ball first in the third overtime, but Jake Prest missed a 20-yard field-goal attempt.

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -- Brett Johnson rushed for 256 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries to lead the Scarlet Hurricane (4-0, 1-0 Southwest District).

Eric Bane ran for 108 yards and one touchdown on 24 carries for Marion, which rushed for 375 yards on 48 carries. Matt Noe scored on a 2-yard run and also threw for one score.

Omar Laritta paced the Blue Devils (0-5) with 34 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Grayson County quarterback Ethan Hash completed 12 passes for 105 yards, but also tossed two interceptions.

RINGGOLD -- The Wildcats (3-1) got out to a 32-0 lead, then withstood a mid-game rally by the Terriers (1-4).

Derrick Palmer scored two touchdowns to lead the way for Byrd, which got as close as 32-20, before a fourth-quarter turnover helped Dan River regain the momentum.

GRETNA -- Andre Dickerson returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, and the Hawks (3-1) held off a late Bobcats rally.

Radford (1-3), which trailed 20-7 at the half, made the score 20-14 when Donte Carter connected with Sam Mumpower on a 25-yard pass for a TD with 2:06 remaining.

The Bobcats tried an onside kick, but Gretna, which also benefited from five Radford turnovers, recovered and ran out the clock. Carter rushed for 45 and passed for 94 to lead the Bobcats.

Gretna coach Kevin Saunders won the coaching battle with his brother Matthew, the head coach at Radford.

ELLISTON -- After tossing five TDs in the first half alone, the Mustangs' Shawn Christian finished 10-for-17 passing for 305 yards.

Julian Stewart had four catches for 129 yards and three touchdowns, while Stephen Lilly added three grabs for 155 yards and a pair of scores. Michael Shelor of Eastern Montgomery (5-0) racked up 103 yards and a TD on the ground.

Dillon Kidd led Bland County (1-4) with 20 carries for 87 yards and also scored the Bears' only points.

FLOYD -- Chris Rodriguez rushed for 248 yards and three touchdowns on 39 carries to lead the visiting Pioneers.

Fort Chiswell (4-1) scored on two safeties. The first came on a sack by Nick Romans, and the second occurred when a Floyd County player recovered his team's fumble but was tackled by Parker Mabe.

Dorian Harris ran for two touchdowns for the Buffaloes (1-4).

BUCHANAN -- One week after snapping their 28-game losing streak, the Golden Eagles won again. Meech Coles rushed for 353 yards and four touchdowns for the Golden Eagles (2-3).
