EastMont girls rally to stop 33-game slide

ELLISTON -- Eastern Montgomery snapped a 33-game losing streak with a 42-33 come-from-behind victory over Giles on Friday night.

It was the Mustangs' first victory in the Three Rivers District since Jan. 13, 2006.

Eastern Montgomery (1-14, 1-5) trailed 28-13 midway in the third quarter when it went to a full-court press. The Mustangs outscored Giles 29-5 the rest of the way.

Alaina Phoenix paced EastMont with 12 points and six steals. Kayleigh Trump and Heather Phoenix each added 10 points.

Trump had five steals and went 4-for-5 from the free-throw line in the final three minutes. H. Phoenix had four steals.

Lyndsey Jackson paced the Spartans (0-17, 0-7) with eight points. Six-foot senior center Kelsey Frazier missed the game for Giles.

RINER -- Cameron Frazier scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Maroon Tide to its 13th consecutive victory.

Frazier hit three 3-pointers. Scott Alouf totaled 18, including four 3-pointers for Galax.

Nathan Vaughn scored 18 to lead the Eagles. Brandon Musick added 11 points and eight rebounds and Cody Bentley scored 10 and grabbed eight rebounds.

The Eagles missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have sent the game into overtime.

They scored after grabbing the rebound after the missed 3-pointer, but there was no time left on the clock.

HURT -- Aaron Jones made two of his three 3-pointers in the third overtime as Parkway Christian outlasted Faith Christian-Hurt.

Jones paced Parkway Christian with 16 points. Keith Bryan and Todd Holloway each scored 13 points for the winners.

Parkway went to a four-corners offense in overtime because it had no answer defensively for Faith Christian's Michael Dillard.

Dillard, a 6-foot-10, 325-pound junior, scored 27 points.
