High school roundup

FLOYD -- Codey Williams scored 16 points and snared 16 rebounds to help lead Giles to a 74-68 boys basketball victory over George Wythe on Saturday night in the Chance Harmon Classic at Floyd County High School.

Jarrod Alls added 16 points, seven assists and six steals for the Spartans (6-5). Caleb Tilley and Andy Randel finished with 10 points each for Giles, which won by outscoring the Maroons 28-12 in the fourth quarter.

Will Sowyers led George Wythe with 20 points. Brett Grimes contributed 19 and Tristan Boysaw 15.

FLOYD -- Radford's Jon Thompson went into the game against Blacksburg needing 11 points to reach 1,000 for his career. It took three overtimes to get it.

Thompson scored a 2-pointer midway through the third overtime and the Bobcats used free throws to finally beat the Bruins.

Blacksburg missed a 3-point attempt that would have sent the game into a fourth OT.

Thompson finished with 12 points, Allen Dickerson added 14 and Dontae Carter had 10 for Radford.

Morgan Jones led Blacksburg with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Reece Whitsett added 11 points for the Bruins.

FLOYD -- Tyler Akers scored 16 points and Hody Viars added 12 to lead Fort Chiswell past Floyd County in the final game of the Chance Harman Classic.

Parker Mabe added 10 points for the Pioneers.

The Buffaloes shot just 4-for-14 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter and 9-of-24 from the line for the entire game.

Cole Peters led Floyd County with 20 points and Brett Holman added 12 for the Buffaloes.

Andrew Morris scored 17 points and Matt Aiken had 11 of his 16 in the first quarter to lead the Titans over the Bees.

Greg Coots added eight points and 10 rebounds for Hidden Valley, which built up a 12-point halftime lead, then closed out Brookville down the stretch by hitting 9-of-13 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Aiken was 5-of-6 from the line in the fourth and Morris hit all four of his attempts.

DALEVILLE -- Rick Alderman had 36 points -- 22 in the second half -- as the Cavaliers evened up the season series with their cross-county rival.

Hunter Foley had 11 of his 19 in the second half, as Botetourt turned a six-point halftime lead into a 24-point advantage by the end of the three quarters. Two of Alderman's second-half baskets were dunks.
