Here's all you need to know about the football rivalry between Salem and Pulaski County high schools:

When Pulaski won the 1992 Division 6 state championship with a 12-2 record, one of the Cougars' losses was to Salem. When the Spartans claimed the Division 4 state title in 2000, they lost a regular-season game to Pulaski.

Thirty-one years after they first began playing football against each other, the two Timesland powerhouses are still beating the tar out of each other.

The two programs, 40 miles apart, have mirrored each other's success ever since Joel Hicks became the head coach at Pulaski County in 1979 and Willis White took over at Salem in 1983.

Today, with Stephen Magenbauer at Salem and Jack Turner at Pulaski, the two River Ridge District programs have plenty in common.

Both are large high schools and neither has to share resources with another city or county school. Each has a large stadium and a passionate fan base. Each has a head coach who is an alumnus and former player.

Tonight in Dublin, the two teams face each other in the playoffs for the fourth time.

It will be cold.

But not on the field.
