Chargers advance in playoffs
BLAND -- Bath County ran out to a big lead after three quarters and managed to hold off a furious rally from Bland County in the final minutes of a 17-13 victory on Friday in the Region C Division 1 playoffs.
Michael Robertson threw for 94 yards and ran for one touchdown to lead Bath County (8-3), who advances to play top-seeded Holston next weekend.
Korey Kennedy ran for 91 yards on 12 carries to lead the Bears (9-2), while his brother Kyle scored the last touchdown of the game with 4 minutes remaining.
Bland was in the midst of a game-winning drive before Robertson intercepted a Josh Shrader pass with 1:15 remaining to preserve the victory.

STAUNTON -- Dae'Quan Scott came back from a shoulder separation a week ago to score four touchdowns and pass for another to lead the Leemen past Liberty in the Region III Division 3 semifinals. Scott rushed for 156 yards on 20 carries and completed 9 of 13 passes for 134 yards.
Lee plays at unbeaten and top-ranked Brookville next week.
Down 13-0 in the second quarter, Liberty responded with a 12-play, 65-yard drive capped by a 15-yard touchdown toss from Tyler Bowyer to Carlton Payne with 40 seconds left in the half.
Lee struck back quickly with a Scott touchdown pass of 15 yards to lead 21-7 at the half.

Jefferson Forest 22, Turner Ashby 21, OT
DAYTON -- Dustin Engledove's touchdown reception in overtime and Jeff Storm's extra-point kick following a penalty lifted the Cavaliers to a Region III Division Division 4 playoff victory.
Turner Ashby took the lead in overtime when Ryan Short caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Linn. Then, JF's Andrew Brown blocked the extra point.
JF tied the score on Engledove's nine-yard touchdown catch from Hunter Hannell. Engledove was penalized for spiking the ball when he scored, moving the kick back 15 yards. But Storm made the kick and JF advanced to play at top-seeded Amherst next week.
JF's Desmond Goode rushed for 184 yards on 24 carries and scored second-quarter touchdowns on runs of 78 and 11 yards.

Holston 13, Eastern Montgomery 12
DAMASCUS -- In a suspenseful Region C Division 1 playoff game, Holston earned its first postseason victory in 24 years.
Holding onto a 13-6 lead with 2 minutes to play, the Cavaliers (10-1) allowed Shawn Christian to find Brian Deare for a 24-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-7 to bring the Mustangs within a point. But Eastern Montgomery (5-6) failed to convert the ensuing two-point conversion, when Chad Raines, who ran for 147 yards on 29 carries, was stopped inches from the goal line.
