High school football roundup: Lord Botetourt's Cavs rally for win

LOW MOOR -- Lord Botetourt recovered a fumbled kickoff on the Alleghany 11-yard line and subsequently scored for a 20-14 come-from-behind football win on Friday night.

Zack Santolla found the end zone from 4 yards out for the go-ahead score with five minutes left for the Cavaliers (3-6, 1-1 Blue Ridge District).

Josh Colombini led the Cavaliers with 81 yards on 28 carries. Backup quarterback Dalton Hargrove was 4-of-9 passing for 64 yards and had a 34-yard touchdown pass to Santolla. Hargrove replaced Emory Straub in the second quarter when Straub sprained his ankle.

Dakota Nicely scored two touchdowns for the Mountaineers (3-6, 0-2) on a 35-yard run and 4-yard reception from Brian Kessinger.

ELLISTON -- The Mustangs handed the Bobcats their first Three Rivers District loss and kept their own hopes for the league title alive with a big win.

Eastern Montgomery (5-3, 2-1) significantly enhanced its hopes for a Region C Division 1 playoff berth.

Radford (6-2, 2-1) dropped out of a tie for first place. If Giles defeats Floyd County on Monday, the Three Rivers will be in a four-way tie.

No further details on the game were reported.

BUCHANAN -- Jordan Talbot threw for 293 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Knights (4-4, 2-0 Pioneer District).

Talbot completed 16 of 24 passes and hooked up with DaVon Ross and Jeff Johnson on touchdown passes of 45 and 41 yards, respectively. Ross caught six passes for 136 yards.

Eric Thiemer scored two touchdowns for the Knights and gained 67 yards on nine carries.

Justin Martin scored on a 43-yard run for Craig County (1-7, 1-2), which broke its 27-game losing streak last week. The Rockets' Adam Howard completed 10 of 26 passes for 94 yards.

Tyler Caveness also scored four touchdowns while carrying the ball 153 yards on 14 carries.

Hampton Roads managed only 18 yards of total offense in the game.

POWHATAN -- Not even a successful fake punt could help Roanoke Catholic (6-2) overcome four turnovers in a loss that took the Celtics out of playoff contention.

In the fourth quarter, Catholic punter Charles Blevins threw a 41-yard pass to Jamar Brown on the fake punt to inside the Knights' 20-yard line. But an interception at the goal line turned the Celtics away.

Zach Zoller gained 100 yards on 18 carries to lead a Catholic offense that was held to 193 total yards.

Deon Watts led the Knights (10-0) with 113 yards on 16 carries.
