DALEVILLE -- Seth Parris said he has a deal with Pulaski County's offensive linemen.

"I tell 'em if you give me a hole, I'll give you the yards," Parris said.

Both sides live up to that bargain Friday night as the Cougars routed Lord Botetourt 40-6 on the Cavaliers' home field.

"They was blowing 'em off the ball and I was running in behind them," Parris said.

Parris had two touchdowns for the Cougars before his teammate and Virginia Tech signee Nubian Peak got into the end zone. Which is not to say Parris, who ran for 72 yards mainly up the middle, hogged the spotlight.

Peak scored three touchdowns, one on a 70-yard punt return, and Jolly Martin got one.

The Cavaliers, on the other hand, didn't score until the reserves got into the game and Justin Welch scored on a 29-yard sweep.

"We didn't show up to play and Pulaski is the best team we've played so far," said Lord Botetourt coach Tater Benson, who noted that the Cavaliers have already faced Salem and Brookville.

"That's not a good combination. We got beat up front. We couldn't throw. We couldn't catch. We couldn't run. We couldn't tackle."

The Cougars (5-0) had no such troubles.

Parris scored on Pulaski's opening drive and did the honors again when Antwyn Calfee intercepted a Lord Botetourt pass at the Cavaliers' 36.

Peak got the Cougars' next drive off to a good start, returning Troy McNeill's punt from midfield to the Botetourt 27 and finishing off that drive with a 9-yard score for a 19-0 lead to end the first quarter.

Peak nearly broke free in the second quarter, dashing 23 yards to the Botetourt 34 before Tyler Landes dragged him down from behind. Two plays later, Peak stiff-armed Landes on his way to a 39-yard touchdown.

The Cougars defense forced yet another punt on Botetourt's next possession.

Peak fielded the kick at his own 30, backed up a bit and seemed to duck under a herd of on-rushing would-be tacklers. He popped up on the other side and dashed untouched 70 yards for his third touchdown with 3:59 left in the first half.

"He's got that breakaway speed that's just outrageous," Parris said.

He said there's no jealousy between them though.

"He's got his moves and I've got power," Parris said. "Me and Nub, we're about even. Some nights he gets his and some nights I get mine."

Some nights, like Friday, they both get some.

Zane Quesenberry ended a promising Lord Botetourt drive to start the second half, intercepting a pass in the Cavaliers' end zone and Martin dashed in from the 1 to cap that scoring drive for the Cougars. It was Pulaski's last score, one that started the running clock.

The Cavaliers are now 2-5, a "disappointing season so far," Benson said. But Botetourt has a week off before playing its three district games.

"Every goal we set is still attainable," Benson said. "We can still win the district; we can still make the playoffs."
