CHRISTIANSBURG -- Christiansburg's baseball team notched its first district win since 2006 behind Seth Martin's complete-game four-hitter and a four-run outburst in the bottom of the second inning, beating Pulaski County 5-3 on Friday in a River Ridge District game.
Miles Ailstock homered and reached base three times for Christiansburg (7-11, 1-7). Teammate Travis Hudson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Ben Eads had two hits and drove in two for the Cougars.
BASEBALL
Blue Ridge District
Northside 4, Lord Botetourt 3
DALEVILLE -- Matt Lynn went 2-for-3 with two doubles and drove in the winning run in the fifth inning for the Vikings (12-5, 3-2).
Matt Herron pitched 6 23 innings to pick up the victory for Northside.
Patrick Arnold had three hits, including a home run, for the Cavaliers (10-7, 0-4).
Casey Weddle added two hits for Lord Botetourt.
Alleghany 18, William Byrd 3
The visiting Mountaineers bashed four home runs in ripping the Terriers.
Alleghany put the game away with an 11-run sixth inning that featured seven hits.
Dylon Hurt had two hits for Byrd.
Hogoheegee District
PH-Glade Spring 7, George Wythe 6
WYTHEVILLE -- Marcus Montgomery went 2-for-4 and had two RBIs in the Rebels' district win.
Seth Harding also had a pair of hits for the winners.
Devin Smith was 3-for-4 and Kelly Kline went 2-for-4 for the Maroons (7-6, 5-2).
River Ridge District
Hidden Valley 11, Blacksburg 1
BLACKSBURG -- Mikey O'Brien pitched a three-hitter and knocked in three runs to lead the Titans to the six-inning victory.
Brett Mollenhaven had three hits, including two doubles for Hidden Valley (15-3, 7-1), which took over first place in the district. Joe Greenway also had three hits for the winners.
Joe Phillips was 2-for-2 for Blacksburg (12-6, 5-3), which hurt itself with some fielding miscues.
Seminole District
Jefferson Forest 9, Liberty 2
BEDFORD -- Ragan Rudisill went 3-for-4 and knocked in three runs as the Cavaliers (13-4, 7-3) downed the Minutemen.
Aaron Lafon was 2-for-3 for Liberty (6-11, 5-6).
Rustburg 7, Staunton River 2
MONETA -- Dustin Arrowood homered and tossed a complete-game five hitter with 10 strikeouts as Rustburg (10-7, 6-5) won on the road.
Joey West went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Golden Eagles (6-11, 3-8).
Three Rivers District
Giles 12, Auburn 8
RINER -- Billy Cook went 3-for-4 and scored three runs as the Spartans won on the road.
Michael Atkins went 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Giles (9-8, 7-3).
Michael Spencer hit a two-run triple in the fifth for the Eagles (8-10, 3-6).
Glenvar 5, Radford 3
Jonathan McGee had three hits, including a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth to break a 3-3 tie, as the Highlanders won at home.
Kyle Horne tied the score for Glenvar (17-2, 10-0) earlier in the inning with an RBI single. Eric Austin tossed a two-hitter with seven strikeouts for the Highlanders.
Tyler Matusevich gave the Bobcats (6-9, 4-5) the early lead with a three-run homer in the first inning.
BOYS' SOCCER
Blue Ridge District
Lord Botetourt 3, Northside 1
Matt Cox set a single-season scoring record for Botetourt as the Cavaliers won on the road. Cox had two goals, giving him 20 on the year. That eclipses the old mark of 18 held by Curtis Shank. Connor McBane also scored on an assist from Matt Wertz for the Cavs (9-4-2, 1-3-2).
River Ridge District
Blacksburg 5, Hidden Valley 0
BLACKSBURG -- Michael Breske scored two goals as the Bruins clinched the district championship with a home victory. Tim Becker, Daniel Mitchell and Dehmeh Smith also scored for Blacksburg (14-0, 8-0). Hidden Valley falls to 9-2-3, 5-2-1.
Christiansburg 2, Pulaski County 0
CHRISTIANSBURG -- Carl Leist and Brittan Young each scored goals as the Blue Demons downed the winless Cougars. Goalkeeper Josh Porter had eight saves for Christiansburg.
Cave Spring 3, Salem 0
Graham Holley scored two goals to lead the Knights (7-5-2, 5-3). Andreas Morales also scored for Cave Spring and Will Dooley had five saves in goal.
Western Valley District
Patrick Henry 6, Halifax County 0
Fayanga Keita had a goal and three assists as the Patriots moved a step closer to the district championship. Jay Robertson and Matt Kilgus each scored their first goals of the season for PH (11-3-1, 8-0-1), which can clinch the WVD title with a win or draw against William Fleming on Wednesday.
GIRLS' SOCCER
Blue Ridge District
Lord Botetourt 3, Northside 1
Katelyn LePore scored two goals and Kelsay Meador scored once as the Cavaliers (13-2, 5-0) won on the road.
Brittany Akers scored for the Vikings.
William Byrd 10, Alleghany 1
Brianna Johnson, Calen Weaver and Kelli Kitchens each scored three goals to spark the Terriers to the lopsided victory.
River Ridge District
Hidden Valley 1, Blacksburg 0
Maddy Elder scored unassisted in the first half as the host Titans (12-0, 8-0) remained unbeaten.
Salem 1, Cave Spring 0
Kim Elmore's shot with about 20 minutes remaining rebounded to Molly Satterfield, who pounded home the game-winner for the host Spartans.
Bre Kawa notched five saves in goal for Salem (11-3-0, 6-2). The Knights dropped to 7-3-1, 4-3.
Nondistrict
Fresta Valley 3, Christian Heritage Academy 1
STEPHENS CITY -- Fresta Valley jumped out to a 2-0 lead and held on in the VACA state semifinals.
Emily Smith scored for Christian Heritage, which will play in the consolation game today against Shenandoah Valley Christian.
SOFTBALL
Blue Ridge District
Northside 1, Lord Botetourt 0
Tamara Smith and Vannessa Chapman combined for four-hit shutout as the Vikings won at home.
Veronica Blankenship singled home Smith in the first inning for the game's only run. The Cavaliers fell to 5-14, 1-4.
William Byrd 6, Alleghany 2
LOW MOOR -- Freshman Jessica Mahoney struck out 10 and allowed only two hits as the Terriers downed the Mountaineers.
Amber Altice was 2-for-4 with two runs scored for Byrd.
Pioneer District
Craig County 5, Bath County 0
NEW CASTLE -- Nicole Craft struck out eight in a four-hit shutout and went 2-for-3 with an RBI as the Rockets (9-7, 5-3) won at home.
Brittany Ratliff and Olivia LaPrad each went 2-for-3 for Craig County.
River Ridge District
Cave Spring 3, Salem 1
Sarah Mitchell tossed a four-hitter with eight strikeouts as the Knights inched closer to the Spartans in the district.
Meredith Moore had two RBIs and a run scored for Cave Spring (13-4, 6-2). Catlyn Carr hit a solo home run for Salem (13-5, 7-2).
Pulaski County 6, Christiansburg 2
DUBLIN-- Miranda Tuell allowed only one hit in five innings and went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Cougars.
Brandi Turman knocked in two runs for Pulaski County (13-5, 5-3).
Tracy Davis hit a home run for Christiansburg.
Hidden Valley 15, Blacksburg 0
Abby Broughton pitched a one-hitter as the Titans ripped the Bruins.
Megan Lombard hit a solo homer and had four RBIs for Hidden Valley (14-4, 6-2). Annie Lawrence had two hits and two RBIs, and Katherine Preseren ripped a solo homer and knocked in two runs for the winners.
Kelly Shaver's fourth-inning single was Blacksburg's only hit.
Three Rivers District
Glenvar 11, Radford 1
RADFORD -- Meredith Buckley pitched a three-hitter as the Highlanders remained unbeaten in district play.
Kelly Knoebel went 3-for-4 for Glenvar (15-3, 10-0). Chasidy Williams went 2-for-3 and scored three runs for the Highlanders.
Nikki Tibbs scored the lone run for Radford (7-12, 2-7).
Western Valley District
Franklin County 18, William Fleming 0, 5 innings
ROCKY MOUNT -- Jenny Law went 4-for-4 with three extra-base hits and an RBI as the Eagles (14-4, 8-1) cruised at home.
Ashlee Washburn and Kristen Montgomery had three hits and three RBIs apiece for Franklin County. Jessica Brown tossed a two hitter, striking out 10 and walking none.
Nondistrict
Patrick County 5, Chatham 0
STUART -- Kaitlyn Hall and Kaitlyn Culler combined on a three-hit shutout as the Cougars won the district game.
Hall went four innings, striking out two. Culler came on for the final three innings, striking out eight.
Taylor Clifton had two doubles and three RBIs for Patrick County (17-2, 7-1).
BOYS' LACROSSE
Rockbridge County 8, Monticello 5
With the first-round victory, the Wildcats advance to face the winner of today's Salem-Brentsville game on Tuesday at a site to be determined.
