Cave Spring 7, Salem 6

Daniel Downing hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Knights (8-10, 4-4) a victory over the Spartans (6-11, 3-5).

Chris Boylan and Brady Stovall each went 2-for-2 at the plate, while Kevin Banks scattered six hits over seven innings for Cave Spring.

Three Rivers District

Floyd County 4, Eastern Montgomery 2

ELLISTON -- Brandon Marshall struck out 11 in a complete-game effort for the Buffaloes. Marshall also went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI for Floyd County (4-14, 3-6).

Nondistrict

Christiansburg 4, Bassett 3

BASSETT -- Brad Cox had two hits and one RBI on Wednesday to lead the Blue Demons (6-11).

Softball

Three Rivers District

Auburn 12, Giles 0

PEARISBURG -- Nicole Layton was 4-for-5 with two triples and three RBIs, and Samantha Whitlow was 2-for-5 for the Eagles.

Heather Dindinger threw a one-hitter for Auburn (13-5, 6-3). She walked one and struck out six.

Danielle Bandy broke up the no-hitter in the seventh with the only hit for Giles (11-9, 4-6).

Nondistrict

James River 1-2, Magna Vista 0-1

RIDGEWAY -- Callie Cox singled-in Deedee Seemann for the game-winning run in the top of the sixth inning. Ginni Neighbors gave up just two hits and struck out 12 for the Knights.

In the second game, James River's Halie Gilespie scored the go-ahead run when she stole home plate in the fifth inning. Lauren Osborne and Candace Berra each went 2-for-2 for the Knights.

Neighbors pitched two innings in relief to earn her second victory over the Warriors (10-9).

GIRLS LACROSSE

Salem 9, Rockbridge County 8

LEXINGTON -- Rachel Turk and Ryan Rotanz scored four goals apiece as the Spartans (11-2, 6-2) clinched second place in the Jefferson District and avenged an earlier loss to the Wildcats.

The Spartans will host a first-round match in the district tournament at 2 p.m. Saturday. Kathleen Wager scored four goals for Rockbridge, which also has a home match Saturday.

Radford 4, Glenvar 0

Lukas Findley scored two goals, while Brian Flynn and J. Clark each scored once to help the Bobcats (13-1, 8-0).

Girls' soccer

Blue Ridge Conference

North Cross 1, Virginia Episcopal 0

Hallie Martin scored off an assist from Kaya Patel with 10 minutes left in regulation to give the Raiders (10-4) a win in the semifinals of the Blue Ridge Conference Tournament. North Cross will play in the conference championship on Saturday.

Seminole District

Staunton River 7, Rustburg 0

RUSTBRUG -- The game was never in doubt as the visiting Golden Eagles (12-3,8-3) stormed out to a 5-0 lead in the first half.

Courtney Dearing and Kimmi D'Aiuto each had two goals for Staunton River.
