Rockbridge downs Lee with big sixth

LEXINGTON -- Brady Saunders hit two home runs in Rockbridge County's eight-run sixth inning -- one of those a grand slam -- to lead the Wildcats to a 9-2 come-from-behind Southern Valley District baseball victory over Robert E. Lee on Thursday.
The Leemen led 2-1 going into the inning, but the Wildcats (3-10) all got hot at the same time.
Ryan Miller gave up five hits and struck out four over six innings to pick up the win for Rockbridge County.
Baseball
Three Rivers District
Giles 6, Radford 2
RADFORD -- Zach Atkins struck out eight and allowed just one earned run, plus helped his own cause with an RBI double to lead the Spartans (6-6, 3-1) on Wednesday.
Wes Conley helped break the game open for Giles with a two-RBI double in the fourth inning. Jordan Cole also had two hits.
Radford (4-5, 3-1) managed just five hits.
SouthWest District
Carroll County 13-8, Grundy 3-1
HILLSVILLE -- Michael Kelly hit a home run and a double to help Carroll County pick up a win in the first game of the doubleheader.
Justin Edwards' three-run shot in the fifth inning capped off the victory.
Brent Hall scattered three hits and struck out six in seven innings of work for the Cavaliers.
In the second game, Drew Webb allowed two hits and fanned six to lead the Cavaliers (7-5).
T.J. Martin tallied two hits.
Tournament
Chilhowie 14, Graham 9
PRINCETON, W.Va. -- The Warriors rallied to score seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat the G-Men in the Coppinger Tournament.
Chilhowie's Aaron Phillips drove in three runs on a bases-loaded double to key the rally. Phillips finished 3-for-4.
Aaron Clampitt added two hits and scored four runs for Chilhowie (5-4).

Franklin County 8, William Byrd 1
ROCKY MOUNT -- Ryan Ward tossed a two-hit shutout, striking out eight to lead the Eagles (8-3).
Logan Perdue went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Nick Colliver hit a home run in the win.
William Byrd's (5-6) Matt Cox picked up a hit and a RBI in the loss.
Narrows 6, Giles 4
PEARISBURG -- Wesley Ferguson's two-run single in the first inning gave Narrows (6-5) an early lead.
Dale Jones added a RBI single in the fifth for the Green Wave, which took advantage of 12 walks.
Joey Stevers hit a two-run home run in the second inning to lead the Spartans (6-7-1).
Glenvar 20, Craig County 0, 5 innings
NEW CASTLE -- Eric Austin, Cam Holshouser and Brad Gallagher combined to throw a perfect game for the visiting Highlanders (9-1).
Glenvar's Andy Baum recorded four RBIs, while Brad Gallagher and K.J. Ford each tallied three.

Piedmont District
Patrick County 5, Bassett 0
BASSETT -- Kaitlyn Culler pitched all seven innings, allowing two hits while fanning six for the Cougars (8-2, 3-1).
Holly Willard went 3-for-3 with a RBI and two runs scored in the win.
Patrick County's Whitney Bowers went 3-for-4, while Kylene Culler hit a home run.
Devon Varner and Lindsey Hager each had a hit for Bassett.
Nondistrict
Giles 13, Narrows 1, 5 innings
PEARISBURG -- Shanda Higginbotham and Rachel Smith combined for a no-hitter to lead the Spartans.
Lindsay Meredith led the offense, going 3-for-3 with a double, triple and two RBIs.
Higginbotham added two hits, a double and two RBIs, and Smith contributed two hits and three RBIs for Giles (8-5).
Narrows (1-9) scored its only run on a wild pitch.

Blacksburg 6, Salem 0
BLACKSBURG -- Tim Becker scored three times to help the Bruins (8-0, 2-0) remain unbeaten.
Three Rivers District
Glenvar 12, Floyd County 1
Corey Terrell, Justin Williams, Jose Argurta and Coby Karuziz netted two goals apiece to lead the Highlanders (5-1, 2-1).
Nathan Weis scored the lone goal for Floyd County.
Radford 8, Giles 0
RADFORD -- Lukas Findley scored four goals in the Bobcats' (7-1, 3-0) win over the Spartans (6-2-2, 2-1).
William Saunders added a goal and an assist for Radford.

Martinsville 4, Magna Vista 0
MARTINSVILLE -- Brennan Murphy recorded a goal and an assist to lead Martinsville (6-2-1).
Quamaine Giles, Colin Welch and Robbie Armbrister also scored goals for the Bulldogs.

Salem's (5-2-0, 1-1) Molly Satterfield scored on an assist from Kim Elmore for the game's only goal.

Lindsey Hunter netted three goals to lead the host Highlanders to a district win.
Radford 7, Giles 0
RADFORD -- Mary Wiley netted four goals and Pip Pattison contributed three assists to propel the Bobcats (7-2, 2-0) to a district win.
Blue Ridge Conference
North Cross 2, Carlisle 0
Hallie Martin scored in the opening minutes of the game to put North Cross (4-1, 4-0) in the driver's seat.
The Raiders' Anna Black added a goal before halftime.
VACA South
SW Virginia Home School 2, Dayspring Christian 1
Mary Broughton scored on a rebound that came off of the post with about three minutes to play to give the Conquerors (1-7, 1-5) their first win of the season.
Brianna Chorba also scored for SW Virginia Home School on a penalty kick. Kayla Goodman made eight saves.
Elena Johnson scored for Dayspring Christian.
Boys' Lacrosse
Patrick Henry 17, East Rockingham 4
Ben Quinn tallied six goals and four assists to help Patrick Henry (3-4) pick up a win.
Drew Anderson contributed four goals and an assist, while Andrew Burton notched three goals to go along with an assist for the Patriots.
