Melton, Bobcats rally for district win

Katelyn Melton pitched five innings of two-hit relief as visiting Radford rallied to win a Three Rivers District softball game 3-2 over Eastern Montgomery.

Bryanna Stewart went 2-for-4 for the Bobcats, while Janay Rollins added an RBI double. Ashley Womack drove in both runs for the Mustangs (0-11, 0-4) with a single.

Glenvar 14, Auburn 2: Lauren Trotter had three hits and three RBI to lead the Highlanders to a Three Rivers District win over the Eagles (7-4, 3-1) in Salem.

Cave Spring 19, Pulaski County 4: Grace Kytchen led a 23-hit attack with three hits and five RBI as the Knights won a River Ridge District game in Dublin.

Chelsea Kelly and Mackenzie Meador each had three hits and two RBI, while Kendal Martin belted a two-run home run for Cave Spring (8-2, 4-0). Jillian Sullivan struck out 11 in five innings of relief for the win.

Lord Botetourt 11, William Byrd 0: Lauren Poehner pitched a two-hitter and also had two hits at bat as the Cavaliers won a Blue Ridge District game in Daleville.

BASEBALL

Hidden Valley 10, Christiansburg 9, 5 innings: Adam Tucker had three hits and two RBI to lead the host Titans to a River Ridge District win.

Hidden Valley (6-6, 2-1) scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double by Brian Moore and RBI singles by Tyler Coyer and Aaron Lower. Nick Thompson had two hits and three RBI for the Blue Demons (6-8, 1-2). John Furrow added two hits and two RBI.

William Byrd 8, Lord Botetourt 0: Aaron Conner gave up four hits over six innings and went 2-for-4 at the plate to lift the Terriers to a Blue Ridge District win in Vinton.

Andy Adldoost had two hits for Byrd (9-4, 2-1). Turner Phelps two hits for Botetourt.

Alleghany 10, William Fleming 0, 6 innings: David Dobson gave up three hits over six innings and the Mountaineers rolled at home in Blue Ridge District game.

Radford 5, Eastern Montgomery 1: Marc Ailstock had two hits, including a solo shot, to lead the Bobcats to a Three Rivers District win in Elliston.

Radford (7-3, 4-0) scored four runs in the seventh to grab a 5-1 lead.

Cave Spring 6, Pulaski County 0: Robert Mills pitched a three-hitter, striking out eight and walking none, to lead the host Knights (8-4, 3-0) to a River Ridge District win.GIRLS' SOCCER

Patrick Henry 2, George Washington 0: Ginny Strong and Brittany Brondrazio scored goals for the Patriots in a Western Valley District game at home.

Emily Peters had eight saves for PH (6-2-2, 3-0-1).

North Cross 1, Roanoke Catholic 1, OT: Kris Montouri scored in the first half for the Celtics and Molly Steele added the equalizer for the Raiders in the second half as the two teams battled to a tie in a nonconference meeting.

Blacksburg 2, Salem 0: Alena Marand and Sammy Kurtz scored to give the visiting Bruins (7-1-1, 2-1) a River Ridge District win.

Lord Botetourt 1, William Byrd 0: Brea Phillips scored on a penalty kick in the first half to give the Cavaliers a Blue Ridge District win over the Terriers (3-8, 1-2) in Vinton.

BOYS' SOCCER

Glenvar 5, Auburn 0: Jason Gliniecki had a hat trick to lead the Highlanders (5-4, 3-0) to a Three Rivers District win over the Eagles (0-7-1, 0-4) in Salem.

Alleghany 8, William Fleming 0: Marcus Ward scored four goals and Jonathan Wendle had a shutout and six saves for the Mountaineers in a Blue Ridge District win at River's Edge.

North Cross 5, Roanoke Catholic 0: Joey Curran and Matt Gregory each scored two goals to lead the visiting Raiders (9-4-1, 6-0) to a Virginia Independent Conference win.

Hidden Valley 4, Christiansburg O: Kayvon Sarmadi had a hat trick for host Titans (9-1, 4-0) in the River Ridge District.

Phil Coldiron and Eric Young combined for the shutout. Coldiron stopped two shots and Young, three. Christiansburg fell to 2-5-2.

Cave Spring 7, Pulaski County 0: Sam Hiatt, Derek Dooley and Adam Bock each scored two goals to lead the host Knights (5-4, 1-3) to a River Ridge District win.

Blacksburg 5, Salem 0: Tim Becker scored three goals and the visiting Bruins scored four times in the final 13 minutes for a River Ridge District win over the Spartans (5-2-2, 2-2).

Matt Becker and Michael Breske also scored for Blacksburg, which is unbeaten in the River Ridge.

William Byrd 1, Lord Botetourt 0: Chris Barnett scored with 11 minutes left to give the Terriers (9-2, 3-0) a Blue Ridge District win over the Cavaliers (2-6-1, 2-1) in Daleville.

BOYS' LACROSSE

Patrick Henry 17, E.C. Glass 5: Thomas Dabay scored five goals to lead the host Patriots to a win over the Hilltoppers (3-7).

Ryan Parker had four goals for PH (7-2), and Logan Bittle added three goals.

TRACK AND FIELD

Floyd County Invitational: George Wythe's boys and Cave Spring's girls won team championships Friday in the Floyd County Invitational.

Roanoke Catholic's Phillip Martin had a Timesland season-best in the high jump - 6 feet, 7 inches. He also won the long jump.

Marie Vitello swept the 100-meter hurdles and 300 hurdles for Cave Spring, while Laurel Sitze took the 1,600 and 3,200.

Liberty 8, Rustburg 5: Justin Overstreet gave Liberty a 6-4 lead with a three-run home run in the fourth inning and the Minutemen knocked the Red Devils out of first place in the Seminole District with a victory in Bedford.

Andrew Oler had three hits and two RBI for Liberty (7-7, 5-3). Tony Carimi (1-2) pitched a three-hitter.

Amherst County 7, Staunton River 2: Ryan O'Neill and Scott Reese each drove in two runs to lead the Lancers to a Seminole District win in Moneta.

Justin Stump had a two-RBI single for Staunton River (4-8, 1-6).
