Buckley leads Glenvar in rout of Giles

Buckley (2-2) struck out 15 and never came close to allowing a hit in tossing the first perfect game in Spike Harrison's 22 years as Highlanders coach. The freshman pitched a one-hitter in her last start and has now faced the minimum amount of batters in going the route in the past two games. Kat Caldwell and Jorden Herald each had two hits for Glenvar (2-6, 2-0). Giles fell to 5-6 and 1-2 in the league.
Roanoke Valley Christian 2, Westover Christian 0: Jessica Snyder threw a one-hitter and struck out 16 batters to lead host RVC to a nonconference victory over Westover (2-6).
Kaylah Bryant and Ashley Snyder each had an RBI double for RVC (5-5).
Floyd County 20, Eastern Montgomery 1: Stephanie Link allowed only one hit - Melissa Dunlea's single in the third - as the Buffaloes rolled to the five-inning Three Rivers District rout in Elliston.
Jessica Zeman was 3-for-3 with a walk and scored four times, and Allie Burgin was 2-for-3 with a triple for Floyd County.
Halifax 5, Patrick Henry 2: Lori Reeves had two hits and knocked in two runs for the visiting Blue Comets as they took the win over Patrick Henry at River's Edge Sports Complex.
Amanda Rogers went 2-for-3 and scored two runs for Halifax (10-2). Chelsea Settles had two hits and an RBI for the Patriots (7-4).
Auburn 8, Radford 2: Nicole Layton racked up six strikeouts and smacked a three-run triple as the Eagles downed the host Bobcats in a Three Rivers District game.
Charissa Duncan scored three runs for Auburn (7-4, 3-0) and had a triple and a stolen base, while catcher Casey Frye picked off two runners and went 2-for-3 with one run for Radford.
Alleghany 4, Lord Botetourt 1: Jessi Allman tossed a two-hitter with three strikeouts and four walks to help the Mountaineers down the Cavaliers in a Blue Ridge District game in Low Moor.
Allman also hit a two-run homer as Alleghany (11-1, 2-0) scored all four of its runs in the first inning.
Lauren Snead allowed only four hits and no runs with three strikeouts in relief for Lord Botetourt (6-2, 0-1).
Hidden Valley 8, Pulaski County 1: Megan Lombard went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and scored twice as the host Titans took a River Ridge District win from Pulaski County.
Megan Hall pitched a complete game, three-hitter for Hidden Valley (7-3, 2-0) and struck out nine. Sarah Umberger tripled for the Cougars.
Northside 3, William Byrd 0: Lindsey Jarrett had 12 strikeouts as the Vikings downed the host Terriers in a Blue Ridge District game.
Kalyn Thornburg, Kayla Price, Ashlee Whisnant and Jennifer Elrod all had two hits for Northside.
For William Byrd (5-6, 0-2), Laura Wise racked up 11 strikeouts with no walks.
Cave Spring 9, Salem 2: Chelsea Kelley pitched a complete-game four-hitter, striking out eight as host Cave Spring took the River Ridge District win over Salem.
Kelley went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBI. Jillian Sullivan went 2-for-4 for the Knights (6-2, 2-0), with a two-run home run and three RBI, and Grace Kitchen added an RBI double. Jamie Price hit a two-run home run in the sixth for the Spartans (1-8, 0-2).
Christiansburg 17, Blacksburg 3: Andrea McIntyre had four hits and Brittney Martin homered as the Blue Demons won a River Ridge District game in Christiansburg.
Hope Creasy tossed a four-hitter for Christiansburg (9-3, 3-0), striking out 10 and walking one.
Craig County 18, Highland 1, 5 innings: Samantha Craft scattered three hits over five innings, giving up just one earned run and striking out five, as the Rockets blasted the Rams in a Pioneer District game in Monterey.
Craft went 3-for-5 with an RBI, and Morgan Daniels went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Macy Dawes went 2-for-3 for Craig County (6-2, 2-1) and drove in two runs. Katie Perdue hit a solo home run to score the only run for Highland.
Franklin County 7, E.C. Glass 6: Sarah Conklin went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI as the Eagles topped E.C. Glass in Rocky Mount.
Amy Kennedy pitched six innings and totaled 11 strikeouts and four walks for Franklin County (7-1, 3-0). Amy Betterton hit a solo home run.
Porshe Vaughn led E.C. Glass with a double and three RBI.
James River 5, Covington 2: Abbie Rexrode pitched five hitless innings with 12 strikeouts and one walk as the Knights defeated the Cougars in a Pioneer District game in Buchanan.
Jennifer Windsor had two hits with a double and an RBI for James River (9-2, 4-0), while Crystal Arritt tossed a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and two walks for Covington (2-6).
BASEBALL
Northside 3, William Byrd 1: Matthew Flora pitched a complete game for host Northside, scattering six hits, a walk, and an earned run, and striking out eight as the Vikings topped the Terriers in the Blue Ridge District game.
Michael Lloyd hit a two-run home run for Northside (8-4, 2-0) in the second inning, and Andrew Stover went 3-for-3 with a double. Mark Nester scored the only Terrier (8-4, 1-1) run off an RBI single.
Blacksburg 15, Christiansburg 4: Brandon Dove pitched a five-inning complete game, allowing six hits with four strikeouts, as the host Bruins defeated the Demons in a River Ridge District game.
Dove also went 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBI and a solo home run for Blacksburg (4-6, 1-1), while Derek Doss also went 2-for-2 with two RBI and Walker Perkovich added three RBI.
John Hawley led Christiansburg (5-7, 0-2) with two hits.

Alan Moore smacked a three-run homer for Cave Spring (7-5, 2-0), while Andrew Feldenzer added a solo shot and went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Tyler Atkins went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead Salem (7-3, 1-1), while Jason Jones went 2-for-4 and added one RBI.
Glenvar 6, Giles 2: Cody Kidd pitched a two-hitter and went 3-for-3 to fuel the Highlanders to the Three Rivers District victory in Pearisburg.
Kidd struck out 15 for Glenvar (6-2, 2-0). Giles fell to 8-6, 2-2.
Radford 4, Auburn 2: Mike Douglas hit a two-run, go-ahead home run in the fifth inning to give the Bobcats a 3-1 lead they never lost in the Three Rivers District matchup in Riner.
Douglas finished with two hits and three RBI, and earned the win for Radford (6-3, 3-0). Daniel Sanders had two hits and both RBI for Auburn (5-6, 0-3).
Hidden Valley 7, Pulaski County 4: Daniel Gills was 3-for-3 and scored three runs to lead the Titans over the Cougars.
Zach Heleson was 2-for-4 with three RBI for Hidden Valley (5-6, 1-1). Jared King was 2-for-4 to lead Pulaski (6-4-1, 1-1).
Alleghany 9, Lord Botetourt 0: Robbie Andrews allowed four hits, struck out eight and walked none as he went the distance for the visiting Mountaineers in the Blue Ridge District win over Lord Botetourt.
Andrews went 3-for-4 with two RBI for Alleghany (9-3). Josh Holskey went 1-for-3 with a double for the Cavaliers (8-2).
Eastern Montgomery 12, Floyd County 8: Josh Burgess racked up three hits with four RBI in the first three innings alone as the Mustangs jumped out to an early 10-1 lead over the host Buffaloes.
Dusty East added five runs and five stolen bases for Eastern Montgomery (8-4, 2-1), while Jordan Stewart went 3-for-4 with three RBI.
Travis Akers went 2-for-4 with three RBI for Floyd County (0-12, 0-2).
Halifax 9, Patrick Henry 1: Tyler Clarke struck out five and scattered five hits over seven innings for the Blue Comets as they took the win over the visiting Patriots.
Clyde Brooks hit a single, a double and knocked in two runs for Halifax. Christian Leftwich hit a double and scored a run for Patrick Henry (4-9).
E.C. Glass 4, Franklin County 3: Jared Bolden scattered five hits over six innings and struck out 11 to help lead the host Hilltoppers (8-3, 1-2) to a Western Valley District win over the Eagles.
Bolden went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three runs scored. Frank Morris had two hits and two RBI for Franklin County (10-4, 1-2), which stranded the tying and winning runs on first and third in the seventh inning.
James River 6, Covington 1: Dustin Tingler pitched an eight-hitter with four strikeouts and four walks as the Knights defeated the visiting Cougars in a Pioneer District game.
Tingler also had a solo homer for James River (7-7, 4-1), while Bobby Buchanan added an RBI double.
Cameron Thurston tossed a complete-game six-hitter for Covington (4-6, 2-1), allowing only two earned runs with three strikeouts and one walk. Andrew Crawford went 3-for-4.
Craig County 11, Highland 4: Brandon Fisher hit a three-run homer and Austin Sixbey added a solo shot as the Rockets (6-4, 2-1 Pioneer District) won at Highland.
Grayson County 14, Mount View 4, 5 innings: Nathan Cline scattered six hits over five innings and struck out five, as the Blue Devils won over Mount View in their second game of the Coppinger Tournament in Bluefield, Va.
Van Harris hit a single and a two-run homer for Grayson County (7-3, 2-0 tournament). Jamie Butler hit two singles, a double and knocked in two.
Justin Funk added two hits and two RBI for the Blue Devils.
Parry McCluer 11, Bath County 0: Josh Lilly tossed a five-inning three-hitter with four strikeouts and no walks as the Fighting Blues defeated the Chargers in a Pioneer District game in Buena Vista.
Chase Coffey went 2-for-2 with two RBI and three runs for Parry McCluer (5-6-1, 2-2), while Cody Clark went 2-for-3 with two runs and Dallas Cole hit a two-run double.
T.J. Martin and Cody Altizer each went 1-for-2 for Bath County, which fell to 1-3 in the district.
John Battle 4, Chilhowie 1, 5 innings: Anthony Hall tossed a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts as the Trojans downed the host Warriors in a rain-shortened game.
Hall also added a triple and a run for John Battle (9-1, 7-0), while Jared Pierce had Chilhowie's (5-6, 2-4) only run.
Bland County 28, Montcalm, W.Va. 1: Josh Shelton went 3-for-3, Josh Taylor went 4-for-5, and Nate Tickle was 3-for-4 as the Bears (4-2-1) whipped the visiting West Virginians in Bastien.
Galax 11, Fort Chiswell 8: Kyle Frazier went 3-for-4, including a solo home run in sixth, and pitched a complete game as the Maroon Tide won the Mountain Empire District game in Max Meadows.
Matt Ritchie was 4-for-4 with three RBI for Galax.
Will Hudson was 3-for-4 and Chris Pickett was 2-for-4 with a solo homer for the Pioneers (3-11, 0-4).
GIRLS' SOCCER
Northside 3, William Byrd 2: Alexi Staton, Taylor Harrington and Jennifer Turner each scored as the Vikings (3-7, 1-0) downed the visiting Terriers in a Blue Ridge District match.
Brittany Jividen had both goals for William Byrd (3-7, 1-1).
North Cross 5, Virginia Episcopal 2: Molly Steele netted all five goals for North Cross (9-2, 8-0) as the Raiders took the Blue Ridge Conference win over Virginia Episcopal in Lynchburg.
Allison Coleman scored one of the two VES (6-4, 3-4) goals.
Eastern Mennonite 7, Roanoke Catholic 0: Vaughn Strickler and Katlyn Shank each scored two goals to lead the Flames (5-2-0, 3-1 Blue Ridge Conference) to a road victory over the Celtics (5-4-1, 3-4).
Blacksburg 9, Christiansburg 0: Alena Marand, Mary Carmen Easterwood, and Katherine Jones scored two goals apiece for the host Bruins (5-1-1, 1-1-0) in the River Ridge District game.
Lord Botetourt 9, Alleghany 0: Heather Sheridan, Kaitlyn LePlore, and Brittany Wright each scored two goals for the visiting Cavaliers as they shut out the Mountaineers (2-8, 0-1) in a Blue Ridge District match.
Brittany Rogers and Ashley Russell combined for the shutout for Lord Botetourt (3-6, 1-0).
Hidden Valley 9, Pulaski County 0: Sientje Henderson's four goals paced the unbeaten Titans to the River Ridge District romp over the visiting Cougars.
Bethany Wedge had two goals, and Meredith Grunewald had a goal and two assists for Hidden Valley (7-0, 2-0).
BOYS' SOCCER
North Cross 1, Fishburne Military 0: Ben Hoyt scored the only North Cross goal on an assist from Matt Branda as the Raiders (8-4-1, 5-0) handed a Virginia Independent Conference shutout loss to the visiting Fishburne Military School.
Fishburne (3-2-1, 2-2) goaltender Austin Hall recorded 13 saves on 17 shots.
William Byrd 5, Northside 3: Omar Cooke scored all five goals and Chris Collins had two assists as the Terriers (8-2, 2-0) downed the Vikings (5-3-1, 1-1) in a Blue Ridge District match.
Salem 3, Cave Spring 2: Grant Hall, Yanniel DeJesus, and Mike Maxey each scored once for the host Spartans (4-1-2, 1-1) as they took the River Ridge District win over Cave Spring.
Sam Hiatt scored both goals for the Knights (4-3, 0-2).
Blacksburg 10, Christiansburg 0: Freshmen twins Tim and Matt Becker each had a pair of goals as the Bruins blanked the visiting Demons in a River Ridge District game.
Peyton Berkeley and Logan Baird shared the shutout for Blacksburg (6-2, 2-0.) and Kyle Melendez had 10 saves for Christiansburg (2-3-2, 0-2).
Hidden Valley 2, Pulaski County 1: Taylor Walsh and Fernando Gracia each scored for the visiting Titans (7-1) as they took the River Ridge District win over Pulaski County.
Robbie Dickson scored the Cougars' only goal. Pulaski goalkeeper Zane Lineberry recorded 20 saves.
Jefferson Forest 2, Heritage 0: David Bodine and Jacob Peterson each scored for the undefeated Cavaliers (9-0, 6-0) as they shut out the Pioneers (4-4, 2-3) in a Seminole District match in Forest.
Bassett 4, Patrick County 2: The Bengals roared back from a 2-0 deficit to pick up a Piedmont District win over the Cougars in Bassett.
Jonathan Pace had two goals, while Jorge Rios and Vinny DiGiovanni provided one each for Bassett (5-4-1, 3-1-1). Oscar Tejeda had both goals for Patrick County.
George Wythe 8, John Battle 0: Aaron Crowgey had three goals as the Maroons blanked the Trojans in Wytheville.
A.J. Wolford and Thomas Crowgey each scored two goals for George Wythe (5-2, 4-0), while Chris Grub added one. In the net, Seth Lanter and Kent Williams combined for the shutout.
Galax 9, Grayson County 2: Oscar Lopez and Dio Rodriguez each scored three times for the visiting Maroon Tide as they took a big Mountain Empire District win from Grayson County.
Ryan Webster scored one of the Blue Devils' two goals.
E.C. Glass 3, Franklin County 0: John Carrington, Will Blackman and Matt Rinkel scored as Glass (7-3, 3-0) topped the Eagles (5-3-1, 2-1).
BOYS' LACROSSE
Patrick Henry 12, Cave Spring 6: Logan Bittle and Ryan Parker each scored four goals as the Patriots (6-2) whipped the Knights at the Veterans Hospital field.
Mike Brown had three goals for Cave Spring (5-4).
Salem 14, E.C. Glass 2: Jed Lynch scored two goals and had three assists as the Spartans (4-1) ripped the Hilltoppers in Lynchburg.
