Cavs survive on missed extra point

Blacksburg's Josh Sales scored on a 21-yard run with 35 seconds left Friday night, but the Bruins could not convert the extra point as Lord Botetourt won 21-20 in a nondistrict game in Blacksburg.

Devon Wood rushed for 170 yards and scored two touchdowns for Lord Botetourt (2-2) in a game that had almost 800 yards of combined offense. Daniel Smith passed for 142 yards and threw a fourth-quarter touchdown for Blacksburg (1-3).

Angelo Fuller scored on an 85-yard kickoff return and ran for 105 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries for the Celtics (2-2, 1-0). His 12-yard run and 2-point conversion run tied the score at 14 in the third quarter.

Kevin Hairston ran for 133 yards on 26 carries for Roanoke Catholic.

Brian Wells ran for a touchdown and threw for one to give the Caissons (1-3, 0-1) a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.

The Celtics held Sean Tyree, one of the leading rushers in the VIC, to 55 yards.

Bland County (1-4) trailed only 12-7 entering the fourth quarter, but two fourth-quarter turnovers aided Craig County (3-2). The Rockets scored three touchdowns in the fourth on two runs by Hancock and one by Richard Jones.

Dwayne Flack ran 95 yards on seven carries for the Bears. Thomas Willis scored on a 71-yard fumble recovery for Bland County.

Chad Thompson blocked the extra-point attempt by the Hilltoppers in overtime to give the Cougars a nondistrict win in Lynchburg.

After being deadlocked at 14-14 at the end of regulation, Kevin Crouse roused the Cougars (5-0) with a 7-yard touchdown run in overtime. Crouse finished with 30 carries for 158 yards and two touchdowns.

Frank Watson picked up a Pulaski fumble late in the second half and returned it for a score for E.C. Glass (2-3).

Ian Holmes passed for 104 yards and an overtime touchdown for the Hilltoppers.

Funk threw for two touchdowns - both to Butler - and ran for another.

Wes Underwood threw a 63-yard TD pass to John Butler to give the Green Wave (2-2, 0-1) a 27-20 lead with 10:19 to go. Funk scored on a 6-yard run to tie the score with 4:52 left.

Deron Brown ran for 170 yards and one TD on 28 carries for Grayson County (1-4, 1-0).

Underwood threw two TD passes. Brandon Vaught rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns and also caught a TD pass for Narrows.

Covington (3-2) cracked George Mason territory on three series but came away empty. In the third quarter, Covington failed to score on fourth-and-goal from the 1. The Mustangs took over and drove for their final touchdown.
