Cave Spring rolls past Highlanders

Alex Lemmer rushed for three touchdowns and Brian Thompson ran for two more as James River beat host Glenvar 33-0 Friday night to kick off the season.
Glenvar got 62 yards rushing from Carter Brown.

J.C. Simmons had a good night passing for PH (1-1) going 10- of-19 for 91 yards and one touchdown. Marcus Day led the Patriots in rushing with 86 yards on 24 carries.

Jonathan Edwards rushed for 202 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries to lead the host Raiders to nonconference win.
It was the season opener for the Raiders. The Chiefs (1-1) won the Virginia Independent Schools Division I title last year.
James Revercomb completed 11 of 19 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns for the Raiders. Chase Morrison caught five passes for 98 yards and two TDs.

The Eagles lost two fumbles in the final four minutes and committed five turnovers for the game to drop a nondistrict game to the Lancers in Amherst.
The Eagles forced a fumble at their 40 with 4 1/2 minutes to play and drove to the 15 where the fumbled away the snap. The Eagles forced a punt with 1:30 to play but fumbled two plays later.
Ronnie Edwards led the Eagles with 200 yards on 21 carries and three touchdowns. D.J. Willis was 3-of-11 passing for 48 yards with two interceptions.
Vincent Moore led Amherst's ground game with 166 yards on 15 carries. Quarterback Pierre Tinsley carried 13 times for 106 yards and was 0-of-3 passing.

Senior Chris Collins bulldozed his way past the Indians as he led the Buffaloes to a road win.
Collins finished with 21 carries for 263 yards for Floyd County (2-0) with touchdown runs of 64, 56 and 51 yards. He added a late three-yard score in the third quarter.
T.J. Stone and Matt Heldreth provided the scoring for Rural Retreat (0-2). Stone had a 20-yard touchdown reception while Heldreth scored on a 24-yard run.
