Minettes take 1st in Seminole District
High school
Amanda Rawlins and Hannah White each scored for Liberty (6-0, 3-0). Caitlyn Roscioli scored off a penalty kick for Jefferson Forest (3-1, 3-1). Erica Porter recorded seven saves for the Cavaliers.
Roanoke Catholic 2, SW Virginia Home School 0 : Jamie King and Kelly Jacobs each had one goal as the host Celtics blanked the Conquerors.
Kris Montouri recorded two assists for Roanoke Catholic (4-1, 2-1) while Natalie Ellmann had three saves. The Celtics out shot SW Virginia Home School (3-1) 12-3.
Blacksburg 3, Franklin County 0: Haley Rhodes, Alana Marand and Marie Pelzer each scored for the Bruins (3-0-1) to shut out the Eagles (4-1).
BOYS' SOCCER
Blacksburg 7, Franklin County 0: Evan Carstensen scored two goals as the Bruins (4-1) rolled over the Eagles (2-2-1) in Rocky Mount.
William Byrd 5, Cave Spring 0: Chris Collins netted three goals for the host Terriers as they handed the Knights (3-1) their first loss.
Omar Cook scored William Byrd's other goals. Chris Barnett added two assists for the Terriers (6-2).
Salem 2, Patrick Henry 2, 2OT: Neither the Spartans nor the Patriots could not come up with a winning goal in Salem, as their double-overtime match ended in a tie.
Pablo Morais and Mike Brown scored for Patrick Henry, and Michael Maxey and Adam Fischer scored for Salem (2-0-2).
Bassett 4, Roanoke Catholic 1: Jonathan Pace netted two goals for host Bassett in a win.
Matt Heaton and Cody Franklin each had a goal for the Bengals (1-3-1). Chris Joachim scored for the Celtics.
Grayson County 2, Auburn 2: Charles Gardner and Ryan Webster each scored a goal for host Grayson County (0-3-1), but it was not enough for a win over Auburn.
Ethan Young and Zach Vaughn scored for the Eagles (2-1-1). All four goals were scored in the first half.
SOFTBALL
RVC 12, Carlisle 3, 5 innings: Kaylah Bryant rapped a single, a double and a triple and drove in four runs as Roanoke Valley Christian School scored a Blue Ridge Conference win over Carlisle (0-4, 0-2) in a game shortened by rain.
Jessica Snyder went 2-for-3 with three RBI and also struck out 13 batters for RVC (2-2, 1-1).
Cave Spring 9, GW-Danville 0: Jillian Sullivan and Chelsea Kelley combined for a one-hit shutout, striking out 11 batters as the visiting Knights trampled GW-Danville.
Mackenzie Meador led Cave Spring (4-1), going 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Roanoke Catholic 11, Massanutten Military 1, 5 innings: Katie Eldridge went 2-for-3 and pitched a two-hitter while striking out 10 as the Celtics stayed unbeaten with a home win.
Katie Walters had two hits and an RBI for Catholic (6-0). Nikki Hylton had two RBI for the Celtics.
Patrick County 5, Bassett 3: Bassett led the ballgame going into the bottom of the sixth, when Christina Blake hit a double to knock in the go-ahead run for Patrick County.
Blake scored two runs herself in the game. Megan Sutphin had two hits and one RBI for the Cougars (2-5, 1-0).
Emerald Worley pitched a complete game for Patrick County, giving up six hits and striking out seven.
BASEBALL
James River 13, Bath County 2, 5 innings: Dustin Tingler picked up the win for James River, giving up six hits and striking out seven.
Tingler went 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI at the plate. Brian Mays went 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Knights (4-5, 1-0) in the Pioneer District. John Phillips reached base three times and knocked in one run for Bath County (1-4, 0-1).
GIRLS' LACROSSE
Salem 11, Virginia Episcopal 3: Ryan Rotanz scored four goals as the Spartans crushed Virginia Episcopal in Lynchburg.
Maggi Pace added three goals for Salem (2-1), and Clara Williamson added two goals and three assists. Jessica Saliba had 11 saves.
Virginia Episcopal (0-2) was led by Juliania Coles, who scored two goals.
