Craig County got some late heroics from all-everything running back Casey Hancock to bump off James River 21-14 Friday night in a heated Pioneer District game in Buchanan.

Hancock, after being slowed to 52 yards rushing in the first half, gained 110 yards after halftime and scored the game-winner with two minutes remaining. Brock Jones contributed two scores for Craig County (5-2, 1-0), including a one-yard rush to tie the score at 14-14.

Damon Ross passed for 154 yards and a touchdown while C.J. Kyle led the defense with 15 tackles for James River (4-3, 1-1).

The Radford defense forced four turnovers including an interception returned 9 yards for a touchdown by Dylan Dehart. The Bobcats held Auburn to only 141 yards of total offense.

Sophomore quarterback Grandin VanMarter threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more to lead the Vikings (2-6, 1-1) to the Blue Ridge District win over the Mountaineers (2-6, 0-2).

Northside recovered an onside kick on the opening kickoff and never trailed.

Kevin Crouse ran for 242 yards on 29 carries and scored two touchdowns to lead the Cougars (6-1, 1-1) to a River Ridge District win in Blacksburg.

The Cougars had more than 373 yards of total offense, compared to Blacksburg's 199 yards.

Blacksburg (1-6, 0-2) was led by Matt Woods who ran for 66 yards on 11 carries, and quarterback Daniel Smith who completed 11 of 33 passes for 105 yards. Will Matthews has five catches for 66 yards for the Bruins.

Hamilton led the Mustangs with 195 rushing yards, and Robertson picked up 85 for Giles (4-2, 2-0).

Jordan Stewart got the Mustangs (2-5, 0-2) on the board in the fourth quarter with a 30-yard touchdown pass and returned a fumble for 80 yards for a touchdown.

The Warriors picked a good time to grab their first win as they survived a fourth-quarter scare on the road to beat Piedmont District rival Martinsville.

Quarterback Jonathan Williams provided the spark for the offense with two touchdowns through the air and a one-yard score on a sneak.

Wes Smallwood and Eric Spencer balanced the running game combining for 122 yards for the Warriors (1-5, 1-1).

Victor Hairston got the Bulldogs (3-4, 1-1) on the board with an 80-yard fumble return for a touchdown.

J.R. Wilson ran for 118 yards and two touchdowns, one of those coming on a 53-yarder as Tazewell (5-3) pulled away from the Scarlet Hurricane in the second half of the nondistrict game in Marion.

Marion (2-6) went into halftime tied, thanks to a 17-yard TD pass from Daniel Creasy to Tyler Smith, but never recovered from Wilson's touchdown run, that came with 4:39 to play in the third quarter.

Wes Walker had runs of 12 and five yards to claw Chilhowie (5-3, 2-3) back from a 16-6 deficit while quarterback Jared Pierce tallied 127 total yards.

Matthew Heldreth shined for the Indians (3-5, 2-3) finishing 12-of-16 passing for 126 yards and a score, he also added a 23-yard touchdown run in the fourth.
