HOT SPRINGS — Jack Vardaman of Hot Springs and Sidney Allen of Forest lost in the second round of the VSGA Senior Amateur Championship at The Homestead’s Cascades Course.

But Moneta’s Dan Mitchell advanced to today’s final in the super senior division.

In the senior division, the third-seeded Vardaman lost 1 up to Ward Hamilton of Manakin-Sabot. Allen lost 2 up to Walt Martin of Oakton.

Hamilton also advanced in quarterfinals later Thursday, as did Pat Tallent of Vienna, Charles E. Green III of Tazewell and Tom Grady of Marshall. The semifinals and final will take place today.

In the super senior division, Mitchell beat Thomas Vogt of Richmond 1 up in the quarterfinals. He beat Marvin Taylor of Roanoke 3 and 2 in the semifinals later Thursday. Taylor had beaten second-seeded Stephen Smith of Arlington in 19 holes in the quarterfinals.

Mitchell will face top-seeded Richard Suggs of Palymra in today’s final.
