Three area juniors advance to match play
CHARLOTTESVILLE -- Three Timesland golfers qualified Wednesday for the Virginia State Golf Association Junior Match Play Championship.
Wednesday was the second and final day of stroke-play qualifying at par-72 Birdwood Golf Course. The top 16 finishers advanced to match play, which begins today.
Michael Wade of Floyd shot a 70 on Wednesday to finish tied for fourth with a 147. Wade, a two-time semifinalist in this tournament, wound up with the fifth seed.
Jack Adkins of Martinsville qualified with a 148. He shot a 71 on Wednesday
Three golfers shot a 152 and had to play extra holes for the final two spots in the match-play field. Jack Wilkes of Roanoke and Patrick Leisure of Charlottesville earned the berths.
Evan Beck of Virginia Beach reaped medalist honors with a 137.
