Blue Ridge's Bill Nunnenkamp and Lexington's David Brogan each claimed medalist honors Friday in regional qualifying for the Senior Open of Virginia and the VSGA Senior Amateur at Hidden Valley Country Club.

Nunnenkamp fired a 2-under-par 69 to lead those vying for spots in the Senior Open. Roanoke's Danny Hopkins, who recently moved to California, earned the second available spot when he won the first hole of a playoff with Roanoke's Mark Funderburke. Both players tied at 71.

Brogan shot 73 to top those attempting to qualify for the Senior Amateur. Richland's John Turyn III (75) was second. Roanoke's Danny Broom and Vinton's Tim Chocklett each shot 76 to earn the final two of four available spots in the field.
